  1. but this makes me think twice about getting more expensive items when all these branded stuff are failing might as well get cheaper equipment, use and throw away
  2. have heard from a few guys that west side TDS is higher. From 80+ to even 100+ Especially so if your tank is in the office. Maybe industrial places water quality lower. Carbon helps remove chlorine. Chlorine reduce the life of resin.
  3. 100W is ok la. Aquabee UP5000 is 75W already
  4. The ballast is slim type like Osram and Tridonic. DE lighting should have
  5. think most people use DI instead. Faster and cheaper
  6. Just saw Reborn as a full display of UVL T5HO. Tried the new 454nm. very blue very bright
  7. anyone tried UV lighting Super actinics? read from reef central that is the strongest actinic.
  8. the water level in my skimmer will drop if the drain pipe is submerged. think its because the water level in my skimmer is higher than the sump water level so syhponing happens
  9. a good skimmer is indeed extremely important....however from my experience an ex skimmer doesn't mean its good. I have seen a china 200+ skimmer out skim a 800+ aqua medic. think it's because the cost that goes into the skimmer doesn't necessarily contribute to the performance of the skimmer. but of course a cheap skimmer can't have quality materials being used.
  10. think noise is hard to determind if its noisy or not. Maybe you can take a look at the running model to know the noise level. the model you are looking at is only a 1000l/hr pump so you have to look at a similiar size skimmer. Dnw-200 is a 3000l/hr pump, more power naturally more noise. anwyay i am imagining that your room is small and quiet. do take note of your tanks overflow, it can be quite loud if not taken care of.
  11. think skimz 150 ($600+) out of his budget didn't see bubble magus when i was at the iwarna. think Reef octopus is a better bet as it has been around for 4-5 years. The new range looks really good to0
  12. 8 tubes would be similiar to MH 250W. Your tank is slightly deep so placing at the top will be safer. The color of tube is another important consideration. go for tubes that has higher par not just for the asthetics of the tank Considering the cost the the tubes, a good ballast is a small price to pay for a long term investment.
  13. Most chillers have calibrate function. Check your manual or call the agent.
  14. Can get from Nature at Blk 1, Thomson Road, #01-340, Balestier Hill Shopping Centre, Singapore 300001. Contact Person: Mr Chan Tel: 6255 6051 Brand is SoLite but looks exactly the same
  15. I am sure you can get from Petmart
  16. Maybe you can try SoLite. Cheaper than Giessman http://aqua.span.com.sg/category/aquarium-...mh-t5-lighting/
  17. Standard set comes with 1 x 5 micron carbon and 2 x standard resin
  18. Think some places water could get very dirty and clog up the 5 micron filter, therefore use 10 microns or more. Also a higher micron cartridge gives a faster flowrate and vice versa. In our case, for the resin to fully react with the water, i use a reasonably slow flowrate while monitoring the output TDS. Singapore water generally does not contain alot of particles, so actually think 1 x 5 micron is more than sufficient. But considering that singapore water contains lots of chlorine, 2 x micron may be a good idea.
  19. You can say that 5 micron carbon is a finer grade so higher quality. Think single cartridge is more than sufficient. Carbon removes chlorine. Chlorine deteriorates the resin.
  20. Think your description of stirring is too vague so no one knows how to vote. 'Never over-fluidize the media. Aim for a gentle simmering of the media, not a violent "boiling" effect. Over-fluidization will cause abrasion and the collapse of the media.' Read from some website...
  21. My work place reads 53ppm and 52 at home. Those who have a TDS meter, whats the TDS at your place?
  22. thats alot of difference 19 Litre of distill water = $6. $0.316 per litre 800 Litre for Crystal pro = $68 (change all three chamber) $0.085 but i usually change when there is a reading..so 400 litre = $68 $0.17 distill water wasn't a choice for me. have no place to store.
  23. Actually i prefer Crystal Pro because it is a DI unit. Mainly because it does not produce any waste water. RO requires booster pump to force the water through very fine RO membrane but the water is still too slow for use. According to what i read online also, RO produces 90% pure water while DI produces 99% pure water.
  24. i tried it. Flowrate is ok but the size is quite big compared to Hydor or Tunze nano. Biggest draw back is the that is does not come with magnet. My tank has euro bracing, so can only hang on over flow. The suck pads basically do not work.
