  1. Radioactive BN frag: $15 Turquoise BN colony (fist size): $40 Collection at Serangoon. Interested please PM me.
  2. Starting this thread as I think it is useful to document the result on keeping SPS in my two feet mixed reef. I guess a lot of reefers out there are in the same consideration as me i.e. what SPS can be added to a mixed reef. I have added about 5 different types of SPS in my mixed reef and intent to monitor and document the progress for two months. Of cos it might happen that at the end of the two months, I am left with zero SPS but then at least I tried and will be more than happy to stick to fishes + LPS + GSP. Hopefully reefers out there can draw from my experience (and mistakes). Questions welcomed (so long as dont ask me to sell away my fish/ LPS can liao....) My tank basic information: DT: 60cm * 34cm * 30cm Temp: 26-27oC NO3, PO4: Undetectable PH: 7.9 (night), 8.2 (day) Salt used: Tropic Marin Reef Pro (top up with DI water, TDS 0) Light: Zetlight ZT6500 (Max 90W, currently set at 77W) Flow: RW4 (set to 2000l/hr), caninster (1240l/hr) WC: 3 time weeks, about 10% each time Feeding: heavy feeding (morning and evening), light feeding (lunch) LS: LPS: about 20 GSP: about 5 Fishes: 11 (2 blue tangs, 5 blue eyes anthias, 2 true percula, 1 cleaner wrasse, 1 green Mandarin) Currently, the SPS I have in my tank are as follows (if I id any SPS wrongly, please correct me as I am very new to them): 4* Acros (two green two purple) 1* BN 1*pink millies 2 digi (one green, one orange) 2* monti frags (one red, one green+red) 1* ridge (blue) Most of my SPS are on the top 1/3 level of my tank End of week one field report (22/12/14): Bad news: one of the arcos already showing signs of RTN after two weeks in the tank. The remaining 1 purple arcos is not showing any PE. The other 2 green arcos showing some PE. Good news: the green and orange digi are showing somewhat great PE. red and green monti, BN, Millies and Ridge showing PE. (will take photo during the holiday break) Colour wise, there is no browning (yet) dont die 1 dont die 2 (this ridge coral really stuns me with its deep electric blue colour) Conclusion of week one: All things equal, frags from reefers stand a higher chance of not mati-ing. I am pinning my hope on the BN, digi and millies having the highest chance of making it. hopefully, they dont prove me wrong ah... =============================== One unexpected 收获,as i never really pay much attention to the SPS tank when I visit LFS, somehow I never "see" this coral before. Haha, bought it thinking that it is a SPS, turnout it is not.
  3. Dear SPS reefer, May I know how many of you are testing for (on top of PO4 NO3 PH KH): 1) Sr 2) I2 3) Mg 4) Ca 5) Potassium cos I am thinking whether to buy 1) 2) 3) 5) testers or not... Also, the steps for testing Sr are like testing for DNA, I doubt how accurate it will be loh...

  10. Hi experts, I understand SPS require stable parameters, high calcium, and high kH So most hobbyists use automated dosing and reactors. But I also hear those who succeed with none. They change water once every 6-9 weeks, do random manual dosing, and no testing. How come they can succeed too?

  13. Just started a new pico SPS tank in the office yesterday. Transferred all my dying / bleached out SPS frags from my home tank after another white slime breakout. This tank will serve as a recovery tank to the frags and the objectives are to get the frags back in good health again. Equipment Filter: HOB filter Wavemaker: Boyu SP101 Light: Green Element Evo 6x3W (Modified 4 Blue / 2 White) I plan to supplement Ca and KH with small amounts of kalkwasser daily. As you can see from the pic, most of the SPS frags are bleached but not dead. Currently I've only switched on the 2 blue lights (supplemented with an overhead desk light + light from the tank next to it) so as not to shock them.

  17. Hello Guys, Just wanted to share my newly setup marine tank. Its a custom made 2x2x2 size cube with sump. After some suggestion from LFS, i went Triton way even i don't have enough knowledge on it. My sump is designed to have a 20% volume for the refugium, and the flow arrangement is from refugium-->skimmer-->return pump. Here is the picture of the tank with cabinet and sump. Equipment Lists 1. Maxpect Razor 120W 16000K 2. Vertex Omega 130 3. Reef Octopus DC5500 4. Hailea HS-66A 5. Jebao WP-25 6. Jebao WP-10 7. GemSurfs Dosing Pump GSD-3-M 8. AutoAqua Smart ATO 9. Dymax 6500k lighting for sump 10. 5 Stage RO filter (Zero) Used Black and White Live sand (I think Caribsea Livesand), Tropic Marine PRO salt, and Aquaroche Designer Rocks, and DI water for initial setup. During cycling for 2 weeks, i just feed the tank with a couple of frozen mysis shrimp. Did not use the Razor lighting, but already placed chaeto and caulerpa and turn on the lights on sump 24/7. After 2 weeks of waiting and testing for Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, and Phosphate, and waited for these to become zero, I added my first fish and corals. I managed to complete (i think) my cycling quickly because , I used Pro Digest to speed up the bacteria growth on my tank, around 1 vial per day, for 4 days. I also encountered diatom bloom but only after adding my corals. Diatom quickly vanished after a week maybe because I used Nualgi at that time. Here are the list of livestocks that i have until now (1 month), 1. 3 chromis 2. 2 clown fish 3. 1 algae blenny 4. 1 goby 5. 1 cleaner shrimp 6. 1 turbo snail 7. 1 Crocea Clam corals, 1. pink birds nest (fiji) small colony 2. green acropora colony 3. Millepora colony 4. Monticaps 5. frogspawn Here are the detailed/close-up equipment pictures, My newly setup doing pump, My Skimmer, My dosing container, and water top-up, My ATO sensor, (I don't know how to rotate this picture) My wavemaker and return pump controller, (I don't know how to rotate this picture) My Chiller, My corals and fish picture, you can see here my bleached montipora at the center, dont know if already dead! My pink birds nest is not so pink anymore, and some parts below are maybe bleaching, Here are my problems encountered, 1. First, Montipora, completely bleached, I thought that this is the most hardy sps. probably because of alkalinity swing I encountered at the beginning (from 6 to 10 dKH) 2. My Pink Birds nest has also bleached part at the bottom, at first I thought it was because of the hairy crab (already removed), but I think is slowly getting covered. But one thing is that the polyps are now slowly showing, compared to the first week I acquired. I know my tank is very young, and my fault of not having patience in a hobby that normally should have. I don't know if the montipora is dead (should I throw it)? How about the birds nest? Will the bleaching will continue? Do I need to frag? I'm Dosing Triton, 20 ml per day (dosing pump-for 24 hours, maybe 10 droplets per hour), Nualgi 2ml per week (dosing 0.5 per day on 4 days). I stop dosing Pro-Digest after cycling completed. I feed my fish once a day with small pellets. I feed zooplankton once a week (0.5ml). Chaeto and Caulerpa thriving with lots of pods. 3. What other corals can I place on my SPS tank? Zoas? LPS? Any inputs and suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks! Here are my recent parameters, almost stable.
