  1. Due to miscalculation, I ended up with a spare Skimz iBox Nano IOS Tank (only). So I thought to myself… What the heck… If they can make these things so small, there must be some kind of reef that could to kept. So start my Nano/Pico tank adventures... Dimensions: W180mm x D225mm x H245mm Pump: Dymax PH200 (5W, 200 liters/hr, 5-10 liters) Light: Hopar LED-200 (Blue+White, 3W, 21 LED) Before Setup After Setup Found a small skimmer but not small enough to fit into the IOS compartment… Will continue searching probably will go for those limewood type. Considering using LIVE rocks to cycle. Please hit me with all the necessary wisdom to make this work. Thank you.
  2. Hi, I have a 2x2x2 display tank and and want to start adding corals. What lights shall I get? The LFS suggested me to start with a Beamswork 60. Would it work or I need an special one given the 2 feet depth?
  3. 3.5", With me 4 mths. Eat well fat n healthy. Let it go $25. Collection @ Toa Payoh. Interested pls PM me. Tnx.
  4. Being in reefing years without my own thread, but it is the earliest when I realized it is late. Here we go! Was starting with an 2x1x1 tank for “Mixed” reef, which means I had no idea what I am doing, but shopping at LFS and Mixed everything together. I still recall I followed the golden rules at that time to change water every week, but never checked SG level or big 3 parameter when I use NSW or ready salt mix from LFS…. It only seems to be on track when I started keeping SPS, I invested Chiller, Dosing pump, rodi…. And got a 1.5 cube for SPS only, which were great success with Maxspect G2 light, and Algae scrubber, but whole tank gone after a chiller pump failure, and it became a tank of “hot coral soup”. It was very sad. Meanwhile, I had upgraded to a RSM130 (2x1.5x1.8ft), but, I have no sump tank, but 2 empty canisters used as external pump to feed FR and Chiller. Till today this setup still there and doing great, but soon will be taken down, as my new tanks are up. Just to keep some pic of my previous hero tanks. 1.5ft cube:2 year ago 2ft RSM130: 2 year ago 1 year ago
  5. Hi bros and sis, I have a problem with my reef tank water is always cloudy, can you please help to share some good tips to overcome that.. I have done 100% WC due to house relocation on 1/3/2015 and 30% water change on last weekend below is my tank spec.. DT: 30"x24"x17" bare bottom sump: 26'x20'x18" Skimmer: BM C7 Reactor 1: H20cean with rowa Pho Reactor 2: H2Ocean with rowa Carbon Return Ehiem 1264 Refu: NA my live stock 1x blue tang 1x coral beauty 2x blue chromis 1x 6 line warrse 1x Black back butterfly 1x watchman goby 10x snails I think my tank is not overstock for 48 gallon DT. for feeding, I do feed 2 times everyday with 1 pack of FBS each. All of my fishes are doing fine with me for many months. My tank parameters are Ammo: 0 N02: 0 N03- 10 to 15 PO4: undetectable PH: 8.1 to 8.2 Temper: 26'C so, is there any reason causing my tank cloudy. please advise me. thanks a lot.
  6. Hi guys, So i decided to start this thread to share a bad news as well as some good news. So first, the bad news. As some of you may know, i was keeping seahorses but the challenge was too great for me and my little ponies soon succumbed to a bacterial infection and withered away. How devastating. I am still pretty sad but i knowni did everything i could to keep them happy and healthy. And it wasn't. Anyway, long story short, they died and i decided to quit. But my friends encouraged me to start over to i decided to convert my tank into a reef tank. So, this thread will now document thr progress of my little micro-reef and i have many interesting and unique things to share. I have already found many unique attributes about my reef. My approach- i am trying to go with the natural approach here. No skimmer, no fancy equipment, just frequent water changes. I dont dose anything but may do so in the future. Equipment- 1. Ios 1.5 feet cube 2.overhead filter 3. An old maxspect g2 that is half spoilt. I cant adjust anything. Just on, off. Ahahahah. 4....nothing. thats it!. I will be posting many many pictures because im obsessed. So pls stay tuned. Lastly, i do welcome all constructive criticism and comments and of course, compliments so please feel free to add as you wish. Cheers folks!
  7. Bought a new house more than a year ago and it took me that long to realize i have a good spot for reef tank right in front of me. I was originally looking at buying a used 4feet tank but didnt find any that suites my budget and likes in terms of design (specially the overflow design). Finally last month I've found a 5ft tank thats close to what im looking for and its been delivered to my place by sgbros. finish setting up. will add more pics...
  8. Hi pros, am thinking of getting a Fluval Spec 5 and making it my first marine tank. Is there anyone who can advise a step-by-step idiot's guide? I hope to get to a tank with all the bright colors of and bustling marine life! Please correct me if I'm wrong: 1. Firstly, after getting the tank, do i need to change the factory default light to get it to the marine kind of lighting which can support coral and fishes. Do i need to add anything to the default filters etc? (specs of Fluval Spec: http://ca-en.hagen.com/Aquatic/Aquariums/Starter-Kits-Desktop/10516) 2. So far my plan is to get some LR, and arag LS, with half or 1 market prawn to get the cycling started. Which test kit is a good starter kit to buy? 3. Once that is done, i will need to introduce cleaning crew first? For a 5G/19L tank, how many and what kind of cleaning crew should i introduce 4. After cleaning crew is in, do i introduce corals or fishes first? Am advised to get Hammers and Mushrooms as a starter coral as they are hardier, but the colors are duller, so am seeing if there are other brighter, more colorful corals that I can be suggested. 5. Am thinking of introducing clowns but am not sure i should due to the tank size. Thanks for your valuable inputs!
  9. Friends, I have 4 pieces of LR to let go.. They have been in my reef tank for 1+ years. Total weight about 8kg. Selling $30. Location: Seletar Hills estate (YCK-AMK Ave 5) Get in touch at 9107 tree tree 27 if you are interested. Thank you.

See you guys there.
  15. Dear all, I have been in and out of reefing for the last few years due to work commitments. Anyway to keep the story short, I decided to renew my passion and come back to reefing again. The tank specs and equipments as follow: Tank: 48"x 24"x 24" Lightings: Maxspect Razor 120w x 2 Skimmer: Skimz Kone SK1 Chiller: Hailea 1/4 hp w/ Aquabee 3000 Wave Maker: Tunze 6065 x 2 Return Pump: Eheim 1262 Uv: Coralife 9 watt Uv w/ Eheim compact 1000 Addictives: Caribsea Purple Up, Calcium, Phosbuster, Ammonia buster etc. I used to rely a lot on equipments such as calcium reactor, kalkwassar reactor, Auto top-up system, controllers and monitors etc. However, this time round I decided to keep things simple and minimise on all kinds of unnecessary equipments.
  16. Hi all, Just to share my 2 weeks old bare bottom nano reef 'adventure'. Had a RowaPhos accident 1.5 months back and my previous nano reef tank (45cmx30cmx30cm) looked really bad, everything covered with fine RowaPhos dust (rusty color). Although the corals didn't seem to be affected by the rowaphos dust, the sight is not pretty. Have to teardown the system and down a complete scrub down of the live rocks and corals. Didn't do the sand as it is too messy. The photo below is the reef tank after the scrub down, still not good as I dare not to scrub the coral too hard in case of damaging them. The before sight is too upsetting for me to take any photos. For those who are not familiar with RowaPhos, this happens when the current flow in the FR is too strong. Made the mistake when I switch from putting bio-pellets to RowaPhos - it would have been arrested with a good post filter but it overwhelm my tiny DIY overhead filter (check my DIY 3-in-1 filter). Happened to chanced upon a square base nano tank (38cmx38cmx43cm) and decided to restart with a bare bottom nano reef. Also decided to DIY another bigger filter system with the hind sight of the RowaPhos accident. Here's the new bare bottom tank. I think it is still cycling but the cyno-algae is not too bad. You can see some of them on the glass because they are out of reach of my glass cleaner. Need to reach inside to clean. The ugly tube was 'necessary as that's the outlet for my powerhead to my FR, chiller and overhead filter. Kept it in the middle as I wanted to keep the side expose for easy glass cleaning. Hope that it will be encrusted with coraline algae in time to come - am seeing a few white patches forming, I believe they are signs of coraline algae growing. Am having a strong current flow within the tank with a 5000L wave maker. The great thing about it is it keep the light detritus in motion and move it to a dead spot for easy siphoning. The down side is the need to properly secure the rocks as it is so powerful that small coral or rocks can be blown off. Once you get the right placement, then it is a breeze. Discovered an unintentional 'benefit' - I no longer worry about small pieces of coral dropping into the cracks as the strong current will usually bring them to the front. Read somewhere that a reefer uses slate to mount coral in his bare bottom eco-reef zero tank, which gave me the idea to use slate to stick my zoanthid frags. Works well and fit nicely near the outlet of the 5000L wave maker (the 'cave' on the left). Surprisingly, the frags open up well despite the strong current. One thing to note for those thinking of going bare bottom is the scaping. It too me a lot of time building the scape as the bottom is smooth and rocks and coral does not have very good hold. I didn't use any putty to hold the rock together but I guess it will be easier if it is used. I had a major rock slide in the first week and another due to 'itchy' hands. The axiom "When it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies. Well, have finally settle with this look and resisting those itchy hands... tough. Here's a photo of my entire nano-reef setup and the specs below: tank - 38cm x 38 cm x43 cm Light - 1 x 18W Beamworks LED - 1 x 11W Aquazonic LED Chiller - 1 x Halea 150 set at 27C FR - 1 x Biohome - 1 x Rowa Phos Filter - DIY 3-tiers Filter (filter wool, carbon, nutrifying bateria pad), with a refugium at the bottom of filter. Have not start the refugium as yet. Currently using it to keep macro algae (sea lettuce) as nutrient export. Skimmer - Nano-skimmer Wavemaker - 1 x 5000L wavemaker 'Return pump' - 1 x 3500L submersible pump The tank is almost full and am reserving some small spaces for nice coral frags. No sure if the light is sufficient but the acropora is doing not too bad as the tips are coloring up from the time I bought it. Am considering higher power lights. Hope the sharing is useful for you. Your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Raiden
