Admiraltian
how is your t5 compared to your led in term of intensity? Hi bro ericmz, it's much stronger as I'm using 8 tubes. I can see some of my sps r bleaching. That's why I need to timer prog 6 tubes to run 6hrs and the other 2 tubes to run 10hrs for the time being. Bro,the first 2 sps very nice, can share where you bought from?Hi bro weeseng, I got it from AC. The nasuta is Aussie and the turaki (blue dragon variant) is Indon sps. reef garden
Bro Admiraltian, What's the reason for your switch from the AI Hydra to T5 now? To bring out colours of the SPS which the LED failed to do? I'm asking because I'm considering switching from LED back to T5 and want to hear whether others are feeling the same? Thanks. To bring out colours of the SPS which the LED failed to do? I'm asking because I'm considering switching from LED back to T5 and want to hear whether others are feeling the same? Thanks. Not sure which is better in terms of color up sps. I believe both can but t5 does have a better spread of par on the overall tank area. Led might need more sets or depended on design & the positioning of the led clusters & also the color spectrum it provides. Coloring also depends on the t5 bulbs color u used. Hope this helps. Admiraltian
Nice tank bro, Any update after using Algea X? any side effect so far? Ok, I must admitted I made some mistakes while dosing cos I didn't go thru the full manual. I didn't shorten my lighting period, remove my activated carbon, off my gfo reactor on the first few days of dosing as recommended. I also dose at the wrong timing, did a wc & dose my daily trace elements. Dosing need to be after lighting period, no water changes and no dosing of trace additives. Or else it will render the algea X less effective. I almost at the end of my dosing cycle. Having stop a few days at the 21st day now into the 14th cycle. Almost all my bubble algae gone, only left some small patches of bubbles algae and hair algae near the overflow and dt inlet pipe that refuse to go away. As for side effects, it said to harm inverts like sea urchins & clams & I did lost a mini clam suddenly after dosing a few days later. It do put corals into a little stress but won't kill them. Do go thru the manual first if u r really serious in using it as ur last resort. It said to be most efficient in killing dinoflagellates. For my case, bubble algaes is no1, rest r neomeris annulata, bryopsis and gha. All these are greatly reduced to almost zero now. Rest that still growing as mentioned above. Need to manually removed as much as u can during this period in order not to cause any nutrient spike due to dying algae. Hope I've answer all ur queries, bro. Ok, whatever u do, dun burst those bubbles, the pores spread fast in water column when burst. There's a method shown in a video by mr saltwater tank using a scraper to dislodge and straw & hose to siphon and suck out the bubbles individually and those grown in a pack ones can use a scraper/penknife to scrape & peel it off. For small patches, u can try this. Quote Display Tank : 36" x 20" x 20" Herbie overflow box design, Sump : 36" x 21" x 17", Frag Tank : 16” x 20” x 16”, custom built by Tank Culture. Admiraltian
Been a while since my last update. In this time, my tank encountered massive gha & red cyano growth all over my tank. Some pics of the infestation. All these happened after my initial treatment using fm ultra algeaX. It managed to rid my tank of bubbles algae, some bryopsis and hair algae. But after that cyano Juz bloom and so came the red & green turf and hair algae. Currently going thru2nd treatment using wat ever left of my algeaX and also marine bakto therapie and blend to kill the algae and outcompete the cyano. So far to not much effect for red cyano. Might need to get some red slime remover soon. On a brighter note, one of my stags growing almost out of water. Also got this new yellow wrasse from green emerald aquaria near my place. So far doing well though it looked a bit skinny. That's all for now, folks. Have a Gd weekend!! Admiraltian
This 2 mths hasn't been that great. Has been battling red cyano, fuzzy gha, bryopsis and some dinoflagellates. Having said this my tank had actually crashed last wk. More on this later. I shall update what I could remember of in chronological order. Got these acropora awhile bk but didn't hv time to update. Was doing well then until that faithful crash. Aussie blue lokani Green tenuis? Purple Millie. My red cyano gotten worse and got this to get rid of it within 2days. Amazing product!! After that my gha gotten full control of my tank. Tried all sort of medication and methods like increasing mag level and gotten this algae killer to try kill them but to no avail. This only managed to kill a little of it but it grew back even faster and more. Next, use the mg supplement from dupla, also no use. At this stage, some of my gha was like soft and swinging ard in my tank. They were everywhere, on lr, back of my tank wall, overflow weir, DT inlet pipe. Some pics of it. So now, I got a little desperate and gotten 2 black sea hares from ml to try eating all these algea off. It didn't work too. One of it was big and I think getting old. It died after 3 wks though. While at ml, I couldn't resist and gotten a small size bristletooth tang & coral beauty and a melanurus wrasse. U might hv seen coral beauty in my earlier photos uploads of the algaes. Only the coral beauty and melanurus wrasse survive till now. The bristletooth tang wasn't eating that well and died after a few wks. I then got fanatic and decided to try a higher concentrated dose of h2o2 but my bad on nv research properly on how to add the correct dosage for my tank use. In the end killing almost all my sps. The 19% concentrated h2o2. Quote Display Tank : 36" x 20" x 20" Herbie overflow box design, Sump : 36" x 21" x 17", Frag Tank : 16” x 20” x 16”, custom built by Tank Culture. Admiraltian
After gotten this, I immediately start dosing. I think I took out 5-10 liters of tank water and pour abt 50ml. Took out a few colonies and start dipping them. Then I took another 2-3 liter of tank water and add another 10-20 ml of h2o2 to dilute the solution and spray on the algae infestation. I continue to do this for a few rds. In total I think I used abt more than 100ml which was way too much. This was after the h2o2 injection. The next day, my tank was super cloudy and starts to smell like rotting dead fish. By the 2nd day, most of my sps had rtn. I started to realize how serious my problem is and had chg out 80% of my water using nsw. By 3rd day, cloudiness went back off to 80% clarity and tank starts to stabilize bk to normal. Really heart pain to hv almost all my sps but I have to accept it as its all due to my silly mistake. That's all for now. Thanks for reading. whq
Bro sorry to hear that! I also met with quite similar problem. I stopped water change and change my gfo every week. Meanwhile manually removed free hanging gha and wash filter sock daily. The gha persisted for another 2 weeks but never grow or spread. But by 3rd week gha turned white and died off. No other chemical and reduction.in lighting was done. Of coz, I still lose a few sps. But up till today algae is at bay. Don't give up, as we know this is demoralizing. Mellow
Sorry to hear about the incident man and thanks also for sharing with us so that we can all learn and avoid similar mistakes. Take it as new opportunities to restock tank. How's the gha now though? This could well also be my last direct effort if it really clears my tank of gha. But probably will wipe up my corals which are now impossible to remove. Quote "Save a reef, grow your own"
