Introducing Royal Gamma

Recommended Posts

Dear all, i have one 2.5"PBT , 3"Regal Tang & 2" flame angle in a 3 footer tank. I had brought a 1.5" Royal Gamma. When i release it to the tank, it was attacked by the PBT & Flame Angel. Has managed to scoop it out and place in a betta box. I wish to ask fellows here if it is possible the Royal Gamma can survive with this tankmate?

Many thanks,

My tank setting:

Websites recommend to rescape yr tank. The fishes would focus on getting to know their new place n not bully the new fish.

Not sure to wat extent is the rescape to be effective.

Another way is to catch n confine the bullies in a betta tank.

I tried both method but not effective. On my old tank, My blue regal tang just continues to bully. Till i removed all rocks just to get it out n give to a LFS. So i avoid all tangs n if must will add last..

Stick many mirrors around the tank..

Will reduce the aggression a lot as the old birds will be busier with their images.

I got those small square mirrors around 4inch by 4inch.

Can't really remember where i bought them, maybe Daiso..

Hi fellows, sad to inform the newly added Royal Gamma has disappeared. I assume it probably didn't make it, cos it didn't appear at feeding times and keep hiding most of the time. The questions here for my tank is, should i make another attemp to add the Royal Gamma again? Can fellers here share the tips in keeping the Gamma? Many thanks.

Hi, royal gramma should be quite a hardy fish.

There is no hard and fast rule;

If you do get another one; you can put him in betta box in your display tank for at least a week for him to get use to the tank;

and for your current fish to get use to him.

Best if you can QT him for a while before doing the above.

You can also rescape a bit of your liverocks before releasing him from the betta.

I found the above method works fine.

Royal gramma is a fish that adds color to your tank!

Cheers!

(-_-) Happy will do ... (o_o)

I have 6 tangs they did not bother too much on my gamma. More impt like what bro digi said. Put in betta box for at least 1 week.

Create crevices that your flame and pbt cannot go in for gamma to hide.

Hope that helps. Best of luck bro!

Get the biggest and feeding gamma you can get. :)

Works for me.

Hi bros, i had instead added in a one inch flame hawkfish to my tank. It was like business as usual, no one bother about the new comer.

It surprised me but I guess it could be good timing to try the RG. Starts on a look out & oh yes, it must be good boxer size, hm.. Anyone selling here? He...he

Cheers,

Hahaa.

I guess with PBT around, tough to add new fishes?

What you can try is, get a slightly bigger gamma, put it into your QT tank, make sure it feeds well for 1-2 weeks before introducing it.

Normally I introduce fishes with the lights off, just a personal perference.
