My 2ft Nano Reef Tank

Bro Slapper, Cycling a Fluval Chi 6.6gl now, but the filtration was pathetic.

Got myself a Rio last night. Can you share what you put in the compartments of the Rio?

There is only a white filter membrane, I have got polyfilters, Biohome subtrates, and the noramal wool filters,

can advise me which to put and in which compartment?

Hello fren, I wouldnt suggest RIO to be used as the primary filter. i am running a eHeim canister as my primary filter, and the Rio is a secondary filter and primary skimmer. I inserted polyfilter into the compartment with the white filter membrane. I'm not sure how you are going to put biohome substrates, there is hardly any space.

If you are keeping only fish, I think it should be fine.

Slapper, thanks for advise. Was thinking of getting an Eheim canister go thru my spare chiller then pump it back to the fluvial chi.

Instead of substrates, I was thinking of putting in bio pellets and let in work like a de-nitrator.

You think it will work???

Thanks Bro fir the info, looks like I'll have to stick the original canister configuration but lightened up on the substrates.

Read somewhere those sub rates can be an excessive nitrate factory.

It's been quite some time since I last updated this thread. Here is a recent photo of my 2ft reef tank. It has matured and the livestocks are doing reasonably well considering the size of the tank and the amount of stuffs I put in there. Of cos, frequent water changes and oyster eggs feeding are required to keep the corals happy!

hi bro, where's the beautiful favia u had? sold?

Some of my corals died. The blastos, acans and favia didnt do well in my tank. After some trial and error, i learnt what i can keep and what i should not keep in the tank. So far these corals are thriving, esp star polyps, zoas and plates and elegance corals. The open brains are doing quite well too. Probably they are more suited for small thanks like mine.

Wat setting u put for your razor?? As in timming and the whites & blues beam rates..? Care to share..

TP1: 1am W:0 B:1%

TP2: 1pm W:2% B:5%

TP3: 3pm W:10% B:50%

TP4: 7pm W:20% B:65%

TP5: 8.30pm W:38% B:90%

TP6: 11:30pm W:30% B:80%

As you can see, significant lighting only comes on between 2-3pm and shuts down by 1am. That gives me about 10hrs of daylight. I'm applying more blue beam as well since it gives the corals a better effect. The intensity peaks at 8.30pm and thereafter slower decreases. Otherwise too much light intensity may cause the coral to bleach.
