How often do you turn on your lights

Hi new here..was just wondering..do you switch on your lights all the time or just certaion times of the day?? if so please advise when to on or off your lights..currently im using pl lights one daylighht and another actinic blue..thanks

Hi bro...

Just to share with you.... I switch my MH on for abt 10~12hr a day... and then it goes off... this is to simulate day and night....corals and fishes in the open are subjected to the same sort of day and night cycle...

the only lights i leave on 24/7 are my T5s in the refrigium....

I dont knwo abt PL... but my MH are so hot you can actually get a sun tan if you stand right underneath it....

And my T5s too... they get hot but then just get enought air circulation can oledi....

haven't had any trouble with me lights yet...

I only on my MH for 8 hours... the rest of the day are taken over by actinic blue tubes...

Just setup my 3 feet tank yesterday. Now cycling water. Asked same question and LFS man said we need to "bluff" corals and LS in future. If your viewing time is in evening (like after work), then time lights on to coincide, hence bluffing LS that it is daylight.

My two cents worth. I stand corrected .... shy pai-seh with limited knowledge.

You should totally off the lights so that LS can get some rest, and some LS are nocturnal. If lights are on for too many hours then algae may also start to flourish.

Since I don't have dimmers I try to time my "off" time to be earlier than the time I usually off my living room lights so that the fish don't get thrown into sudden abyssmal darkness. Some do the sunset thingy by first switching off the whites, then the actinic.

well for me.. i think 9 hr more then enough.. also depend on what type of lighting u using lor..

some will say 12hr.. but for me 9hr ok already..

u can on it at evening time. so by the time 9 hrs up.. it will be just 1 or 2 am in the morning...
