Blue Tang not eating

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks, my blue tang is not eating recently :( i can see that he is getting skinny day by day. His mouth is always wide open.

I always feed him with pellets and that also the only food i feed my clown fishes and damsel.

Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Although Tangs will eat meaty foods along with the other fish in the aquarium, it is important that they are offered plenty of marine based seaweed and algae.

This will strengthen the Blue Tang's immune system, reduce aggression and improve their overall health.

You can try to get a Red Grape Kelp, my blue tangs loved them...within 1 - 2 days the kelp is botak liao, no more grapes... You can get it from CF.

Sad, the seagrape come in too late, my dory has passed away :(

so far only my yellow tail damsel and two false clown are hardy enough to surive for a year.

i have tried butterfly, tang , chrome, zebra damsel, cleaner shrimp and some other all died within weeks or months.

Beside the food, not eating may means internal disease. Look for white color poo to verify.

When he was still eating, he poo a lot and his poo are white. Shortly after It body turn skinny with scar left over from ich. He stay with me for barely a month.

Never mind next time i will be more careful.

I like to thanks all of you for the pointers.

Currently left in my 3x1.5x1(LWH) tank are two false clown and one yellow tails damsel.

Many fishes did not survive in my tank some survive but due to their aggressiveness i have to give them away or put them back into sea.

i wish my existing fishes to be happy for the next 10 years or more , i believe it is possible.

I am thinking of getting two black clown fish + an additional BTA into my tank , any advice ?

Is my tank too crowded with two extra black clown will they live in harmony?

My Tank spec

1 Hammer coral

1 Clove Coral

1 Yellow Bubble Tip Anemone

1 unknown red plant

4 feather duster

15kg of live rock

2 inches of live sand

Hi bro, tangs are mainly vegetarian or herbivorous fish feeding on seaweed n algaes in their natural enviroment. IMO, u should provides mainly veges foods like dry flakes made from seaweed & algaes n dry seaweed. The dry pellets are primary made from fish or shrimp meat which the herbivorous fish likes tangs may not able to digest properly.

You may do some fish dietary check with the LFS or search on the internet on fishes that you intent to keep.

Hopes it helps. Happy reefing.

My tank setting:
Size : 48" x 24" x 24"
Return pump: 1 x Vectra S2, 1 x Eheim 1264
Skimmer: Skimz DC skimmer SV203
Lighting : Maxspect Razor R420R 160W
Chiller : 1hp drop coil compressor
Wave maker : 2 x Nero 5 , 1 x Tunze 6055

Top up : Tunze Osmolator Universal 3155

Bro, maybe it is the food. I use to feed my Tang seaweed and the red kelp from CF. Sometime aunty give me the loose one without the rock. The Tangs love it. Try different pellet until u find one that is well balance and they like. I have not feed them vege for a long time. They are still going strong.
