White light will do, LED or T5 all can use as long as its bright enough. U can on it 24hrs a day or in reverse cycle with your main display tank's lighting period. Hope this helps.

Tact on the thread. Does watts matter? Eg 5w or 15w matters?

More watt usually mean greater brightness however some LED has similar PAR output with fluorescent tube but with consuming lesser wattageThis which is also why LED is commonly call green lighting.

Hi All Seniors,

I would like to ask I have a refugium with cheato growing, the tank is close to 1feet deep and I have a 10w LED Daylight running 24hrs. I am slowly seeing the cheato turning from Green to very light green. I am worry it will turn white and die off.

My question, is the water too deep or I need a shallow water to run a refugium? Is my light strong enough to penetrate to the cheato?

pls advise and appreciate.

A shallow tank is preferred, and i think your 10W LED is not bright enough for growth. I used to use PAR38 LED and the result is satisfactory.

Use warm light whether you using T5 or LED. That is 6700 k.

You need less then 10 watt(per led) to light up your sump and get it flourish.

3 to 5 watt per led is the best.

Number of LED depend on your area of coverage
