jcloh
Bought a maxima yesterday. Guess what, it came attached with what looked like a baby clam on the shell. The 'mouth' actually opens and closes, except that the mantle is not clear. Any idea if the baby clam will grow? :-)

Gouldian
Looks more like filter feeding oyster rather than another juvenile giant clam. jcloh
Hmm, presumably a filter feeding oyster is benign and I can leave it there? My wife and kids said the extra mouth looks creepy. Haha.
Gouldian
Yes, they are harmless and will filter excess nutrients from water. I have several previously in my old set-up. However, if you tank is heavily skimmed and low nutrients, they will just waste away. Quote "Reefs, like forests, will only be protected in long term if they are appreciated" Dr. J.E.N.
