SRC Member brojj Posted May 12, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted May 12, 2013 Hi fellow reefers, I have an old hopar T5 supporting up to 4 bulbs tuck away in my storeroom. Thinking of switching back to try to see whether T5 is better in bringing up SPS colors especially the 'reds & pinks'. This Hopar was used only on my old FOWLR for 6 mths. So, my question is whether Hopar ballasts can 'tahan' or support ATI lights? Will there be any 'cons' in the long term like ballasts burn out, causing short circuits, fires... etc apart from does not maximize ATI light bulbs to 100%. I am also currently looking at Solite Type 4 T5HO (4 x 39W) & Odyssea Quad Pro DP90/100 (4 x 39W) if hopar is not that 'ideal'. ATI fixture is out as I don't like 'hanging' unless I can get legs for them to mount directly onto tank. However, can still try to convince me why ATI fixture is the better choice. Budget not an issue here. Some info: Currently using Maxspect Razor LED, red & pink does not comes out even after using Fauna Marine Red color element. Using reef vitality & Polylab reef-resh, zeovite coral vitalizer at the same time. NO3=0 , PO4=0.02, KH: 7.7, Ca: 420, Mg:1480. Tank size: 3x2x2. Keeping mainly zoas, 3-4 LPS & 8-10 frags of SPS. Appreciate for any advise & thanks in advance.
SRC Member Evolutionz Posted May 12, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted May 12, 2013 i think the only problem with your hopar light set is that the reflective panel are not as good as those ATI panel which uses individual reflectors.. dnsfpl
cost of 4 ATI tubes is around $100 why not invest in a better light set to maximize the potential of the tubes? delighting, 1 of the best value for $ T5 light set
SRC Member peacemaker Posted May 13, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted May 13, 2013 I second DELightings lightset. However, like ATI lightsets, they do not come with stands. Do check with Razali on what can be done to improvise. I believe using the Maxspect mounting will be able to achieve what you want.

SRC Member brojj Posted May 13, 2013 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 13, 2013 Wow, beautiful. De lightings retro fit looks good with the 'legs' & fans compared to when it is 'naked'. <br />6 tubes somemore. Powerful. Can PM me the price for the additional modification, the amt u have paid. SRC Member brojj Posted May 14, 2013 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 14, 2013 Hi guys, DE Lightings do come with stand but as a separate item. Cost at SGD25/set and avaliable only for 4 & 6 tubes fixture. And only for their DE lightings fixture. Found this info at www.delightings.com/index.cfm?GPID=15 Juz a little bit of contribution on my part. By the way, guys, does having a fan/fans, active cooling, helps in any way, is it a 'must'? As some brands come with them, some don't. Sorri about this 'newbie' question as T5 technology is still 'new' to me due to immediately switch to LED when i started reefing 4.5 years ago. Thanks in advance.<br /><br />Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2<br /><br />
SRC Member peacemaker Posted May 14, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted May 14, 2013 As far as I know, active cooling is good to have, but not an absolute must for T5s. The previous models for DELightings do not have fans.
eChan
The cooling fan is not must have but a good to have. I got advice from a bro here that cooler ballasts will have better efficiency that will maximise the output more consistently. Btw, i bought mine from DE more than 2 years ago, not recent. Cannot remember the price but I remember it wasnt very expensive. Just one fan with a seperate power. For the whole lightset, I need 4 power points.
