My 16L Pico Tank

Continued sharing of my humble pico journey....

Added a fan and thermometer, most of the time not used. Day temperature hovering around 27-28degC. With the fan and air-con, it can bring down the temperature to 25-27degC if required.

Added an earthing probe to eliminate some stray currents in the tank.

Also added more SPS frags from some nice fellow reefers.

Here's a daylight shot... Thanks for viewing.

what lighting is that? looks real good ur pico tank.. makes me itchy to start one,

Thanks bro.

The lighting is from Micmol. Here are some links:
Love it for 3 reasons:
1. It has a small but robust holder that will fit most pico tanks even in-between IOS chambers.
2. It has 3 channel controls namely Blue, Warm White and Special LEDs instead of the usual 2.
3. Use of larger lenses to better diffuse the lights.

Very nice and clean look.

Thanks bro.

Very nice tank. Can pm the price of the led light? I see u already had ios, what is the purpose of the hof?

Thanks bro. PM you.

The purpose of the HOF is three folds:

1. An extension of the filtration system.

2. To create a better flow and surface agitation.

3. Runs the tank a lot cooler by 0.5-1degC.

Bro nice tank. May I ask is if air driven skimmer?

Thanks bro. I like your blue mushrooms in your tank. Very chiao.

Yes it is air driven. It uses a wooden air stone by Sander (need to replace its original) and an external air pump. There is a version that has a air pump on the unit. I get my air supply from a heavy duty pump that drives my other tanks.

The skim mate has been darker ever since and nitrate now is less than 10ppm in between water changes. I also noticed that I need to change the air stone less frequent now for whatever reasons.

Pump driven skimmer is more effective than airstone. Happy reefing

Yes but there are reasons not using such as running costs, heat generated by an additional motor, size of skimmer relative to tank. Most importantly water changes are key, skimmers in small tanks actually not necessary.
