Hi all, got an idea but dun know if it's possible?

Can I get granular activated carbon and ion exchange resin (put separate filter bag) and put inside canister filter and run the water in a pail of tap water before putting inside my tank.

Is this method ok as I yet to try.

Reason for trying: got spare canister filter lying around and dun wan to waste money getting di unit. And is. This method cheaper as only need to get resin and carbon. No more budget... Kanna poison already.

Wat u mentioned is a DI unit. Not RO (reverse osmosis). For DI it may work but the DI will exhaust very quickly without RO. For RO u need high pressure of 40-50psi so canister filter cannot do. These days RO/DI unit is very affordable. U can enquire to one of the sponsor here Madpetz.

Usually when you purchase a RO/DI unit, it comes with handheld digital TDS mete/pen for you to test. There is no need to purchase a separate one unless you wish to get those which is linked in series to the inlet/outlet of the RO/DI unit. Cheers. :)
