Hi anyone here running skimmerless?

Was thinking of going skimmer less so can reduce electricity and heat cost.

When i first started my tank my skimmer pulled out lots of dark smelly junk and my ATS grew like crazy. That was when my nutrients was high.

Now my nutrients are very low and my skim mate is very light in colour my ATS also not growing much same for the chaeto and red bamboo algae, was thinking of going skimmerless to try for a few weeks.

You can if you are experience and able to tell if anything is going wrong. All the equipment is to allow for margin of errors for inexperience reefers like me so that the biotope don't crash when something goes wrong.

biopellets and skimmer works hand in hand, the skimmer are suppose to be skimming out the bacteria that is eating the nutrients. its probably your ATS that is maintaining the low no3.

Hi bro I have been skimmerless for a couple of years now.

My most recent 3x2 ft skimmer was get less dunk , so I took it off. I'm using ATS for 2 yrs. n no regrets. U can increase the wattage of ur ATS or increase hrs accordingly to bring down N and P. Remember to dose hor :)

Life rocks very important

Cheers

Sorry to hijack your thread bro. I got a few questions to ask. I wish to try the skimmerless method in my new 3ft tank too. Currently my nano tank is going to be de-comm to make way for the 3ft tank w 2ft sump. Don't really like to keep on wash the skimmer every 4-5days.

1) is anyone using the "miracle mud" method saw some vids on youtube got some very nice looking microalgae growing there but it was posted a couple of years ago.

2) DSB with only miracle mud is that possible?

Yes I am using dsb with top layer miracle mud. Its good for macroalgae growth and I think it contributues trace elements to my corals too.

Bro if u interested u can try googling jaubert method. Kind of fits what u want to achieve I think.

Bro, any ideal if using the jaubert method only on a "area/volume of 1/6 the size" of the whole setup is able to sustain the parameters? From the read up I've google they seem to be using this method for their whole tank or no mention of the min size require.
