sunny130y
ok , on spec , was wondering whats 35~8 watt about , so it just runs at 35 watts all the way . Actually the wattage depends on the speed you choose. Anything between 8 to max 35watts. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Jameshong
The faster the speed, the higher the watt........ ! Quote Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do. - Goethe
SRC Member Kingking Posted January 30, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted January 30, 2015 Can anyone advice whether I can connect the Maxspect Gyre XF130 on a timer say 11pm to 6am, to save electricity. Is it okay for the corals (mainly zoas and softies)?

You can but it might shorten the life span of the pump itself Quote 1000 Gallon Tank in the Hole http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/topic/120957-1000-gallon-3d-hole-in-the-wall/

beelim
With or without alternate mode does not make any difference... The design of the propeller is not design to blow in reverse!!
SRC Member hansolo Posted March 8, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted March 8, 2015 Hi, why would putting it on a timer cause its lifespan to decrease?
SRC Member kenyee Posted March 16, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted March 16, 2015 With or without alternate mode does not make any difference... The design of the propeller is not design to blow in reverse!! The alternating reverse mode is for my fishes to take a break n catch some breather..haha.. My forward mode is to have strong current to stir up particles on my tank bottom Quote @ 291213 Updated video: Kenyee FOWLR http://m.youtube.com/my_videos

SRC Member SunkistC Posted May 19, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted May 19, 2015 Hi kenyee, the 1st picture is the 1st unit.. after changing to a new unit the insulation starts to crack as shown in the 2nd picture.
SRC Member Whiskie Posted May 19, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted May 19, 2015 Am using 130 and the wire looks much thinner. Does not have the cracking issue, yet. fingers crossed. Noticed that the label on the magnet at the dry side is different too. Edited. Saw the label as 150.

Anyway, for the cable, maybe 130 lower power thus thinner..or maybe newer thus improved material for the cable.. SRC Member Whiskie Posted May 19, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted May 19, 2015 Yup. I believed the higher power of the 150 requires thicker wires for the current draw. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
SRC Member POTO Posted May 20, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted May 20, 2015 If the wire crack wouldn't it cause short circuit ?
SRC Member SunkistC Posted May 20, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted May 20, 2015 If the inner wires' insulator also crack then will cause electrocution
SRC Member Bulldozer Posted May 20, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted May 20, 2015 I was contemplating for a while on getting GYRE. Anybody using it on 4FT Tank? What is suitable .... 130 or 150 ?
SRC Member Bulldozer Posted May 20, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted May 20, 2015 If the wire crack wouldn't it cause short circuit ? I think if this is an inherent design problem .. better to cover up neatly with insulation tape.

mtgh
Other than the crack wire, any other bros have problem with gyre. It seems that a quite a large number have been sold according to de aquatic. I have considering whether to get 2 nos of rw15 or 1 nos of gyre for my new 6 foot setup
SRC Member kenyee Posted May 20, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted May 20, 2015 I planning to get a 150 model in Aug but now see all the review abit worried. So far the neg review shd b only the wire outer insulation problem n only a few unlucky sets (I m one of them ..)..I believe there r many happy users as its flow is indeed excellent..u shd watch the YouTube video of 2 x mp40 vs gyre xf150.. SRC Member SunkistC Posted May 20, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted May 20, 2015 Agree that the flow is excellent.. I kept my MP40 after installing XF150.. just the quality of the insulation is questionable
