Hi Bros,

Wanna to start a Nano Tank - 30cm Cude

I plan to start a Nano. got a few question to ask

1. Can i buy saltwater from SW LSF and some little live rock. - will this able to start the cycling faster ?

2. I plan to use a HOB Furval 30 - is it enough

3. Light - plan to get Ecotech Radion - Is it a overkill ? - once save enough - any model to recommend ?

4. Chiller - those china small chiller.( future expansion )

5. No skimmer - decide to do fourth nightly change of water.

6. Livestock - 2 clown + anemone

7 - Is bare tank advisable ?

What is your advise ? Thanks.

I saw this tank. super like... wonder how they do the lighting at the bracing.

Thanks in advance !!

bro, just a piece of advice. If this is your first venture into marine, you stand a less than 10% chance of having a decent tank with a 30cm cube.

safety margin too low for a newbie... Oki, now time for the answer.

1. Can i buy saltwater from SW LSF and some little live rock. - will this able to start the cycling faster ? Theoretically yes.

2. I plan to use a HOB Furval 30 - is it enough. No, not enough.

3. Light - plan to get Ecotech Radion - Is it a overkill ? - once save enough - any model to recommend ? Lighting, 3-5 watt per gallon or better more than 5 watt per gallon

4. Chiller - those china small chiller.( future expansion ) anything that can keep the temperature constant at 26-27oC

5. No skimmer - decide to do fourth nightly change of water. Bad idea. Your fish will have to live in their poo for 14 days...

6. Livestock - 2 clown + anemone. Without adequate flow and light, the anemone wont live long, esp in a small tank.

7 - Is bare tank advisable ? bare tank as in no sand bed?

子非鱼,焉知鱼之乐... (you are not the fish so you...)

Then: my 4FT low tech selling off tank... (2006)

Now: (2014)

Thanks bro !!!

I will consider having anemone then .. I mean every 4 to 5 days change water.

bare bottom tank, no sand bed.

I am not very new as i keep a 4x2x2 before,, but that time no sump no chiller, my tank temp quite high.. the coral and fish will not keep long. ( 4 yrs ago ) i have since decomm my tank and throw the tank away.

So i now consider having small chiller which is more affordable to me.

I hope i can make it with this cude :(

I have exp keeping 1.5ft, 2ft and 4ft tank and i can safely said that small tank margin of error or buffer is way way lower. Uneaten food, dead fish, half dead coral, etc can really crash the tank within hours. Plus there usually arent enough room for carbon, skimmer, etc all these fail safe mechanisium. So i would really advise you to get as big a tank as possible.

HOB filter i recommend fluval c2. Light i recommend cherryaqua inano or maxaspect. Chiller not very necessary as the tank is quite small. Fan is sufficient. Save up that extra money for corals. For skimmer i feel that it is necessary. Recomend tunze 9001

I agree with andtsg, if you're going to spend on an ecotech radion and chiller, you might as well get a bigger tank unless space is a constraint.

My mum forbit me with any bigger tank.. she going to disown me lor if I change any bigger.. :P

hi bro, as for the lighting, u can use par 38 full spectrum or full blue. I'm using it for nano 34L and corals r happy.

As for livestocks, 2 fishes r really the max. U can add 1 shrimp and a few snails too.

Cooling fan is also a way to lower the temp of the water, but evaporate rate will definitely increase.
