SRC Member AppleholicKen Posted March 31, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted March 31, 2015 Hello All, Ive always got issues with my tank having brown algae invading my entire white clean sandbed Any tips on how to prevent it ? I was told to get a strong skimmer and hermit crabs but my crabs aren't really doing the job !! They tend to just walk all over the rocks instead of shifting sand.. Thanks =)

kohanson
I am using nassarius snail and they usually dig into the sand. Then when I feed, they will come out from the sand, take the food and dig into the sand and rest. At night they will move around and will sift through the sand and will clear some of the diatom. SRC Member xinde Posted November 18, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted November 18, 2015 I have a golden head blue line sand sifting goby and he works like a champ turning the surface of my sandbed and it helped prevented algae build up as there's good turn over of the sand . I heard by giving the surface of the sand bed a good turn over regularly it will help prevent cyano too. so far my sand bed has been clean and clear ! SRC Member Teha Toshie Posted December 18, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted December 18, 2015 I've never seen Algae Blenny Clear Up Sandbed they only eat up those on rocks. Best bet will be siphon them out or manual labor. Alternatively Sand Sifter Stars, Gobies few other snail like Fighting Conch, Nassarius Snail, Sea Cucumber might help. They wont eat the algae but the mix the sand around.
SRC Member AppleholicKen Posted December 18, 2015 Author SRC Member Share Posted December 18, 2015 Currently i have a sand sifter star, 2 nassarius snails, 2 turbo, 1 sea hare and 2 blue legged hermit but they don't seem to be doing anything.. always hiding under the sand not moving.. only comes out when i do feeding.. algae problems still there.. hermits does simple job but is toppling my corals everywhere ....
