Species names of Designer sps

Recommended Posts

Bro dingding brought up a excellent point regarding the flow dynamics in a reef system that will affect growth forms and indirectly create confusion with identification.

Here's a example of a frag from a Montipora capriconis (plating and scrolling growth form) that decided to go encrusting when positioned in a very different setting.

I have a few on frag plugs which is also encrusting

Hi Bro,

My infos are both wild & aquaculture colonies .

In my lit experiences, our wave in the tank cannot change so much different to Mille & Prostrata like what you said.

Our wave will affect the formation of branches. But it couldn't change the Mille to Prostrata.

:)

Thin & Thick case more happen in Monti Plate.

To be sure , I wish Bro Cedric can explain you more . :)

Yeap I agree bro, our flow will have a chance to alter the growth formation of our sps. That's what I was bringing up on.

Joep gave a very good example of his monti cap, I myself have a red monti cap that decided to encrust rather than plate out to my annoyance lol.

Identification is really an art to master.

Dear bros,

The images are definitely very helpful to newbies like me on identification of sps. To the untrained eye like me, I have great difficulty telling them apart since they exhibit different coloration under different lights too.

I hope I'm not being imposing here, but if possible, may I suggest that other than identification, the experienced bros can indicate the form (e.g. tabling), light (placement in aquarium), flow or other specific requirements etc.

That would be most helpful to many of us new to sps here.

Thanks a million!

Hi Bro,

You can see those form from the web link in my 1st page.

For flow & lighting, you can guess base on the information of the species orgin and the area of reef where they come from.

I also wanted to request to senior reefers to share their experience about Aquaculture SPS in new thread.

Happy reefing !

However, I realized it is A. Prostrata sp.

If your have something to prove as it is A.Millepora sp. , please kindly correct my post.
