Hi Guys! Recently got hold of this tank from Fresh N Marine, so I will share my journey with other Reefers here. It's a 40 gallon (150 litres) tank with an Internal Organic Sump (IOS) that has 5 compartments. Here's a pic of the tank still in the shop, before it gets delivered to me on Nov 13th.

I have some livestock from my previous set up which will go in there after cycling. I will also add in my current tank (40 litres) water to speed up the cycling. Here are some questions that I have for experienced Reefers here:

1. Is it worth getting the live sand sold at Pacific Reef which says it contains aragonite? It costs 38 dollars for a pack which is more than enough for me, as opposed to dry sand which may cost a third of it.

2. Where would sell dry rock for scaping and not loose small pieces that Pacific Reef has? I know Iwarna used to have it but nowadays I don't see it anymore.

I'm also hoping to do a scape like the one I found online. Here's a pic of it. I know it's ambitious and gonna be hard to replicate but the idea is generally a two tier type of scape where corals with lower lighting needs are shaded by the rocks above it.

As for equipment, so far in the 5 compartments these are the equipment I have so far.

1. Two filter baskets with filter sponge and Biohome.

2. IM Ghost Skimmer Mid Sized (40 gallons)

3. Nuvo pump which came with tank. Not sure of the output.

4. Aquasynchro Wavemaker bought from Seaview.

5. Hailea 28a Chiller which is serving my current 40 litres nanocube.

6. External Breeding Box Refugium (26cm x 12cm x 12 cm.

Regarding sand.

I assume you are referring to Caribsea live sand. In my opinion, its not a must but there are some advantages

- Take advantage that Caribsea offers nice colors & substrates (eg. Fiji pink, Hawaiian black, extra fine)

- No need to wash (though washing regular sand is simple)

- Supposed to be 'live'. Some amount of bacteria inside (though you can easily dose bacteria separately)

Thanks @dr evil for the recommendation. However, I got influenced to buy some rocks yesterday at Pacific Reef which are at the backyard, huge ones that are good for scaping. Haha! It was something new I did not know about as I thought they only sold those 10 dollars per pack ones. Was glad I managed to find rocks that I liked a lot, but I will have to cure them first. Pics will come later.

My tank has finally arrived! Sits nicely on my cabinet. Haha. Can't wait to get started on the set up! I have already got what I needed like the 2ft full spectrum light, the reactor, the light stand, and the dry rocks. Now it's really just getting started on scaping and we can go live! Look forward to updates next week!

That external breeding box has got to go. It does not sit well with my tank anymore due to the cover the tank comes with. Prolly need to change to an internal refugium now.

Hahaha not so fast... My water is cloudy likely due to a bacteria bloom. I'll have to wait till it clears before adding in my livestock. I can't wait though as I have corals which need cool temperatures to survive and my QT is not hooked up to a chiller at the moment.

Here's picture of my tank at the moment, with the lights installed. My wife hates the look of the lights and to be honest, I don't quite like it either. But what to do, don't have budget for Maxspect leh.

@edmund_23 I did haha. I just was worried that the wattage was not enough as it was 52w only. This light has 165w so it's better. But in the end, I decided to switch it to the other one as it really was too ugly. And now we're all happy with it!

Hi @Yxh, here's the link for the light and seems that they have performed well for LPS so far. I don't have SPS so I can't comment. My Zoas that did not open in my previous tank also opened in this tank more.

Just an update, the craze nowadays seems to be on the new Hydropure technology which can safely deal with nutrients in our tanks. So I too dove in to join the craze and got myself a Hydra 30 internal filter! Hahaha. It also acts as a current at the back area of my tank where flow is least so I'm happy that at least it serves some purpose apart from cleaning the water. :)

What do you guys think? Is it clearer now? I guess it's subjective. But corals do seem to open bigger after putting in Hydra.
