SRC Member dieran_green Posted January 8, 2016 SRC Member Share Posted January 8, 2016 Hi all. Started a new 5 by 2 by 2 tank. I started my first tank way back in 2003 with a 2 feet tank back in Uni days ... Slowly it became a 3 feet. After decommissioning my 3 feet , I had a 4 feet and a 2 feet cube. But nothing great as I was quite lazy... So they were a soft coral tank ( 2feet) and a FOWLR tank (4 feet). My interest died down when I had a major itch out break followed by power failure with took a lot of my treasured fishes. Recently my FOWLR had a leak so I decided to take this opportunity and start all over again. Hopefully by starting a tank tread it will force me to be diligent in the maintenance of the tank. Will update more soon on the new tank.
SRC Member dieran_green Posted January 8, 2016 Author SRC Member Share Posted January 8, 2016 (edited) These are the specifications of the new tank: Tankmaker: CR Aquarium Display tank: 5ft x 2ft x 2ft (12mm glass on the back and, 12mm crystal glass on the front, right and left view). Sump tank: 3.5 ft sump tank with 5 compartments It took me a while to decide on the sump tank design. Would like to "tank" Alex and Ah Heng from AM and Dan from CR for all their time and advice. The sump was made in mind of the skimmer I was intending to get which was SKIMZ SV253. Edited January 8, 2016 by dieran_green

SRC Member dieran_green Posted January 9, 2016 Author SRC Member Share Posted January 9, 2016 Bro mind to share your sum tank design in drawing going to make a tank this month looking for ideal for sum tank Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Hi Xeneryx, Hope this helps. I left out the dimension becos I think that have to be custom to your tank. Basically, I wanted to have an opening in the cabinet door see the full length of the refugium that's why I pushed it to the front. However due to constraints that openings did not happen. mengyang_neo
Hi bro.. Yes finally... I intend to keep SPS.... But I still prefer my fishes .. So still deciding... No hurry. I think having a lot of fishes and sps are possible but u will have to be hardworking in maintaining the water to be in tip top condition. U have a strong skimmer, so u have to decide whether u want the dosing method or the water changing method. SRC Member dieran_green Posted January 9, 2016 Author SRC Member Share Posted January 9, 2016 Now now that the tank has been set up, it was time for rock scaping. I always have been a fan of unique rock scapes. In the past, I would buy mushrooms all becos I like on the rocks they attached on. Sad to say I couldn't reuse many of my 4 feet FOWLR rocks as the tank was exposed to copper treatment in the attempt to save my fishes. Many of them were Tonga rocks which made it all the more heart aching. So before I went rocks hunting ... I had a good look on what rocks I have left that can be used and bought expoxy to see what I can come up with. After the epoxy had dried ... I tried to combine to see what shapes I could come up with... Of all the pieces, I like this the most, Different angle of the same rock piece. SRC Member dieran_green Posted January 11, 2016 Author SRC Member Share Posted January 11, 2016 Since I am intending to venture into SPS keeping... Lighting is definitely an issue... Bro Alex was recommending ATI sun power module (8 T5 tubes) as its really value for money.... But ..... I do love the shimmering effects of LED. However you have to admit that certain corals look better under T5. As a result I wanted a mixed but ATI hybrid is too costly in my opinion. I ended up paying Dr Evil a visit to see what were my options. After Iilttle discussion... We came with this solution. photo taken from Dr Evil thread. Custom Fixture of 3 AI hydra twenty six HD and 4 Giesemann T5. Fixture after installation.
