Have you bought your skimmer yet?  If not I recommend the SM251 over the SV253.  In my experience, Skimz DC pumps tend not to be as reliable as their old line of Eden pumps.  At  max settings, the DC version actually draws 69W vs the 40W of the SM251.

Hi guys,

Any recommendation for AI Hydra settings for SPS/Lps?

There isn't a AI lighting setting for all tank since all tank are different in term of tank size, coral placement, lighting placement and so on.. Start with a setup which you think your coral is doing well with and slowly adjust upward over time. However, take note of the White, red, and UV which initially high value will bleach the corals. i would start with a 30 - 40 % of these color and slowly adjust upward.

However, over time once your old corals is acclimatize to the strong LED lighting, you can slowly adjust these up to " burn " the sps coral to improve the coral coloration.

Must be very exciting now during the setup right ? :P:P

I agree. Each tank is different.

Better to start at lower setting then monitor & increase slowly.

Oh well then bopian.  Make sure you check your pump regularly and bring it for servicing/repair during warranty period if required.  My experience was that power cord was loose, and problem persisted even after bringing in for servicing.  I was too lazy to bring it in a second time so I just made sure the skimmer was positioned properly then never moved it any more after that.  Once I upgraded tank, I changed from DC to Eden pump model.

Have you decided on any maintenance system yet?  E.g. carbon dosing method, etc.

Will run all in one bio pellet + vinegar dosing if nitrates get too high.

Then your salinity will drop due to the waste water from your skimmer, better to check your salinity weekly.

If you don't like to change water, maybe consider bi-monthly or quarterly. make sure to bump up the salinity cause i can confirm with you, sure drop lol.

Good point on the salinity. Didn't notice that could be the cause in drop in salinity as well, I think will be more important for those running smaller tank to check their salinity regularly.

Yes, that is 1 learning point from current tank. Salinity drops significantly if there is skimmer overflow (I have a separate large container for skimmer waste) and ATO replace that with fresh water.

So my current practice is to use a doser pump to dose a preset amount of freshwater 4 times a day. Usually a weekly manual top of 1L will do on hotter weeks. With this method, Salinity is pretty much stable even if skimmer overflow or go hyper active. .

No wonder.. But it blend it quite well as a marine tank . Maybe you can work abit more on the scraping to try to find more odd shape rock to create more cave or bridges ect..

Ok :) u pop by to give me tips lor... Just a few blocks away from your house. Haha.

Now have slight diatom outbreak despite using DI water. Wait till tank is stable then will rescape.

Very interesting to see that ur gyre WM is placed so low..wont create sand storm?hmm cheers

Still experimenting with the ideal height of the gyre. So far no sand storm. But I want as much detritus as possible to be lifted by the gyre.
