Im suspecting that my denitrifying bacteria is converting nitrite to nitrate faster than my nitrifying bacteria? My ammonia levels are always 0.5 to 1 ppm and sometimes i can see a reading of 0.25 ppm nitrate but after a few hours the reading drops back to 0 ppm but the ammonia still remains high . How is this possible

Try using salifest or NYOS test kit next time they are more accurate
