The compressor is working great so far. Below shows the temperature profile observed the past few days.

The corresponding lighting profile is superimposed as reference (daytime temperature + heat from light)

Chiller time.jpg

- 20min to chill tank (~ 1000+Lย system volume)

- About 3hrs to warm up 1degC during daytime lighting hours

- About 4-5hrs kick in time at night

Finally finished setting up most of the sump equipment & managed to get the PAR measured. Setting a little lower for a start due to diatom bloom.

Thanks Lawrence for the super adorable baby clowns. They were introduced via a PVC pipe onto the anemones & stayed there.

What are the 4 reactors in front of sump?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The left 2 reactors are Seachem Denitrate daisy chained together at very slow flow rate. This is to create a low oxygen environment for denitrification to take place.

Bubbles (probably nitrogen) formed in the 2nd chamber. Will measure the effluent once its fully cycled.

ย

The next one is the Calcium Reactor. The one on the right of the CR is the secondary chamber.

Thanks.

ย

I received several queries about the denitrator. Its made of 2 units of ย FR-45 fluidized reactor (the type used for biopellet) connected together.ย

ย

I'm also using a ATS purchased from fellow reefer (Thanks...you know who you are).ย

Water parameters... much to be corrected.

- NO3 : 1ppm

- Mg : 1170ppm - Adding Mg flakes to correct

- KH : 7.5kDHย

- Phosphate - 0.24ppm - Need to get Rowaphos

- Potassium : 380ppm - Adding potassium chloride to correct

ย

This amount of Magnesium flakes to increase 100ppm Mg. Need to buy more already.

Thanks Lawrence for the Abalone. Hardworking fella

ย

In my previous tank, the cabinet door hinges rusted very quickly. Decided to give this a try to slow down the formation of rust. I know it won't eliminate rust entirely but to slow it down (hopefully).

Sprayed the hinges black. Also using 316ss screws to fasten the hinge this time.

ย

Update on the seachem denitrate reactor. Slow progress there.ย

- Tank NO3 = 1ppm.ย

- Seachem denitrate effluent = 0.5ppm.

Is dosing magnesium important for corals

Mg is critical to help corals make use of calcium to build their structure & grow.

Mg is also critical to prevent Calcium & Carbonate from precipitating out into in-organic forms which them becomes unavailable for biological functions of livestock.

ย

Hope this helps.

Are you adding those magnesium flakes directly into sump or mixing in water

Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
ย

No...i mix it with RODI water / tank water in the bucket separately. Then drip into the sump slowly.ย

I got some queries about reducing phosphates, so here's sharing my process.

- Rowaphos has been very effective for me & able to last much longer than other products before its capacity is depleted. Some have mentioned Rowa is troublesome as it needs to be rinsed. In my opinion, its not troublesome at all -ย just a simple rinse.

- Weigh what is required. I'm using 200g for my tank. (Instructions mention 100g for 400L etc)

PB230377.jpg

- I'm using a TLF Phosban 150 reactor. Must use the black sponge below to allow water to flow upwards freely (else the rowa won't tumble)

ย

- In a TLF Phosban 150 reactor, 200g is about 6cm height above the sponge

PB230378.jpg

ย

- Pour some RODI water into the reactor for the rinsing process. Its not a good idea to use tap water or dirty tank water. RODI is better.

ย

- Pour out the fine particles

PB230384.jpg

ย

- Repeat about 2-3 times till the water is generally clear.ย

PB230387.jpg

ย

- Prepare some filter wool to be at the top of the reactor

PB230370.jpg

PB230372.jpg

ย

- Flow rate should be enough for the media to tumble lightly on the surface.

- Able to maintain phosphates at the 0.03ppm range easily with this.
