How's the performance of the tunze skimmer you feel?

So far so good, bro.

Pros:

  • Square shape fits in my IOS corner nicely.
  • Skimmed out lots of nutrients daily.
  • DC pump, so I can just press a button to stop it for 10 mins, while I take the cup for cleaning.
  • DC pump, so I can tune the skimming power easily.
  • Quiet too.
  • Surface skimming; those layer of dirt or oil on the water.
  • Skimmer cup easy to clean, since it is not big :P

Cons:

  • Sometimes, if cup not fit properly, micro bubbles might escape out from the side.

So far, I like it much.

Hi bro..which snail did u put for brown algae/ diatom? My tank have now, need to introduce cleaning crew..

Yo!

I got a mixture of snails including turbo; nassarius, cornutus, caught a few by the beach too.

But I think, snails are too slow, they only help abit.

Algae blenny helps a lot on the rocks.

Diatom/brown algae will pass once your system stabilized and hopefully don't come back :yeah:

Year end updates:-

  • Some brown algae came back; could be due to overfeeding.
  • Blackbar hogfish behaves like a pig .... keeps asking for food.
  • Can't resists a mini goldflake angelfish; so bought it; though I would still like to keep some zoas and lps
  • Added in a couple of xenia frags.

Updates on 05-Jan-2017....

Bought a mini kole tang with torn fins .... they healed up quite fast and nicely; hope it won't get too aggressive in the future.
Timid fish from the start; now it swims around asking for food.

Here is my IOS side; simple 2 compartments IOS.

1 side for chiller coil, rocks, marine pure.

1 side for return pump and my skimmer; some marine pure balls mix with continuum media.

My tank width only about 2 feet plus a bit; so not much space for more compartment.
Also, I prefer bigger compartment than smaller one; and I want to keep things as simple as possible.

My chiller coil takes up half of the one compartment only; it is a smaller coil; but it works the same;
Water temperature currently maintained at about 25 degrees.
