This is a tridacna noae,  or the tear drop giant clam. 

Squamosa clams have a less enlongated,  and more symmetrical shell. Also,  the scutes (scale/fins) are more obvious on squamosa clams.

Yes. It's a must have for noae. A lighter colored band around the tear drops. Depending on light conditions may be less obvious though. 

 

I guess @alvinyky best way is to take a look at the she'll from the side. See if it's symmetrical or not.  If there is obvious elongation,  then it's quite certain.

the clam is still relatively young , so it might develop the scutes more later in life.. regardless of noae or squamosa, important is that this is a nice clam and the op should be happy he has it :)
