DI filtered water got nitrite content

I'm using a 4 stages DI filter to get my TDS 0 water and today I did a test and found nitrite content inside.

Is this normal because I never use RO membrane?

Any bros can advise how to remove nitrite without using RO membrane?

My filter stages

Stage 1 = 1ppm micro filter

Stage 2 = CTO carbon block

Stage 3 = DI resin

Stage 4 = DI resin

Your water source I believe should be tap water.

Tap water has nitrite?

Can it be wrong reading?

You like to borrow another test kit to verify

Yap, tap water.

I'm using Salifert test kit.

Or will it because sometime my TDS is not 0 that y causing this?

1. Try to use a clean/new container and to store the water for testing. If the container is “dirty” can affect reading too.

2. Sometimes my tds meter also kuku. Rinse and dry gently

Let’s narrow down and trace the source slowly. Lol

Bro u also using DI filter only?

Yap always use the clean container to test.

I just puzzle why got nitrite...

Same as u. The 4 stages. I couldn’t get 0 TDS for the longest time. Changed carbon, resin still high TDS. In the end, the $5 filter solved the issue. Lol.

Sometimes I wonder why get the 4 stage when 3 gives 0 TDS too. So heavy and bulky....

For me now 4 stages also cannot always get 0...

This one. Suspect algae growing as I leave it outside on the balcony. It’s gets a bit of sun. Try to run a bit of water to flush out the muck.

Tap water is ok. Don't know your nitrite come from where.

I don't think tap water has nitrite . But you can test and see

6.5 * 2 * 2 + 3.75 * 1.5 *1.5,(Decomn on 14/9/08)

If tap water don't have nitrite then the nitrite come from my salt?

Guess I will test again when I doing another water change.

Or any container you use to contain your water for test

6.5 * 2 * 2 + 3.75 * 1.5 *1.5,(Decomn on 14/9/08)

Tonight I will do the below test using the Salifert test kit.

Test tap water
Test treated water
Test treated water + salt

Ok done testing, for reference only.

Tap water
TDS = 110 to 120
Nitrite = 0.5 to 1ppm

4 stages filtered DI water
TDS = 10+
Nitrite = 0.1ppm

Boiled water
TDS = 100+
Nitrite = 0.1ppm

NTUC pure drinking water
TDS = 4
Nitrite = 0ppm

Based on the above result, I reckon to get 0ppm Nitrite in water is either I need to add 1 more carbon filter or to get TDS 0.

Think just change the carbon filter bro. Just now I did a WC too. The water in my Jerry can is 48 although the filtered water in clean container I 001. Lol

Hi bro you used the NTUC Pure Distilled Water? Or just the regular Pure Water? Thanks:)

Yeah, going to do something on the carbon filter and test again. Haha...

Hopefully this will resolve the problem.

Yap, I use NTUC pure distilled water for WC and daily top up before I get the 4 stages DI filter. Quite costly I cannot sustain for long. Haha...

With the filters then I use tap water as the source.

I see, I'm looking into using it for WC also lol.

Much cheaper to buy a RODI, heard some 3 stages are as good or better than 4. Really depends on the resin and filter. Not very eco friendly leh! :chair:
