I have just started a 5g nano in my office.....but now got problem deciding what to keep....the main problem i have is with the temp. over the weeks I have monitor my tank and realise that its temparture can go as low as 22 degree, and as high as 30 degree (if i forgot to turn of the light, when there is no air-con... :P ) also have problem with salinity over the weekend as there will be no-one to do top-up (goes from 1.026 to 1.029 over the weekend)

I don't intent to put in a heater and chiller as its a nano with no sump and not much place to put pumps, pipe etc....

Right now i'm keeping only macro algae and a starfish.....what else can i keep??? any ideas any one???

My office 2 ft tank uses a Eihem canister. Aircon keep temp down. PL Lights on timer. Weekend left lights on. Kept some bubble, leather, elephant ear, fans and 2 triggers. More than 1 year already, no casualty. Only trouble is need to top up evaporated water quite a bit.

I think (marine) therefore I am

Use a heater set at around 24.5 degrees. This will prevent your water temp from going too low. Use a timer for your lights so that you won't have to bother about switching on or off the lights.

From my experience, you may not want to keep the water temp above 30, because zoos will also not do well.

You can get a small heater (about the size of a short pen) at the fresh water farm behind iwarna (I mean really behind as in the road behind farmway 3).

Use a small drip to maintain your salinity, can also add kalk for added effect.

thanks for the replies....i think i'll try Zoo then...but have to get rid of the starfish....it not reef safe.....:P...

i was thinking of setting salinitry at 1.023 so that over the weekend, it will go to 1.026 at most( hopefully)...its really a small tank so don't want to put in heaters or do a drip...quite unsightly....:P...

anyway, i'm thinking of using a digital timer so lights is off for the weekend....now my only concern is the tank temp getting below 24 degree....might not be too good for the zoo.....

for fishes i was thinking of frog fish, as they feed like once or twice a week....but have to study their requirements first...
