these are the famous cyanobacteria.

occur when tank nutrient is too high IE PO4 and NO3

few things u can do

reduce photoperiod

reduce feeding

water change

add media such as ROWAphos

increase flowrate

cleaner like electric blue leg hermits are known to eat them.

they will spread fast. beware ;)

ohx.. thanks... sand shifter star fish useless? the hermit crab will destroy the landscape of the tank? cos i worry it will knock down the rocks... another ways is to buy liquid and add?

how much/often/what are you feeding?

how many fish?

how often you change water?

do you use tap water for topping up?

what's your light duration?

what kind of light tubes?

basically,

1. feed less

2. reduce bioload if u have more than 2 fishes

3. increase water change frequency until cyno goes away. manually remove the cyno during water change. change 10-15% every 3 days.

4. try to get DI water or use stuff like rowaphos to reduce PO4 levels.

5. increase flow.

6. remove your clam until you get some decent lights like T5 HO.

more info on cyno can be found here

how long have you had your clam?

doing well doesn't mean it's still alive after a couple of months.

it may be alive but it may just be slowly degenerating.

not to pour cold water on you but until you upgrade your lights, your clam's not going to be very happy.

oh yah, u monitor your calcium?
