as far as i am concerned...now the meaning of christmas is simply end of year, time to shop and take a break from hectic life

the sad thing is the feeling is no longer there...i would say everything is too commercialised

just my personal comments not meant to invoke any offense

if any offense is taken, my apologies

shoelevy: No offence taken. ;)

It is true that Christmas has definitely lost its meaning, that is to celebrate the birth of Christ. Over the years, commercialism took over and suddenly, presents became the centre of attention.

The origin of giving presents came from the 3 Wise Men who visited Jesus Christ when he was born in the manger and the 3 Wise Men came, adorning gifts of gold.

I guess it may also have come from the legends of Saint Nicholas, who went around Norway (If I'm not wrong), delivering gifts to children at night. Therefore, the name, "Santa", came about..

But I guess by going to Mass, it may take all of us back to the true meaning of Christmas, just for that moment, to rejoice in Christ's holy name. :):peace:

hammy: Yeah, I guess commercialism deduced that there were 3 Wise Men.:P

However, I think Christmas should also be a time the less fortunate should be given a chance to rejoice in this joyous occasion. So let us not forget about those who are less unfortunate and spread the joy! You can either buy small gifts or goodies and donate them to Old Folks' Homes, Orphanages etc. and see the joy on their faces. Simply warms your heart. :):peace:

has Christmas lost its meaning?

Not if you know because of a woman's obedience, by her cooperation, mankind was represented again by a woman and not by a man, as was the case when man first fell from grace, by a woman.

Not if you know where he born at.

Not if you remembered the events that led to his finding at birth and after.

Not if you know the reason why the child was born for. or who his Holy Father is?

-- for unto us a child is born(Lk 2:10-14),.... a Son is giventh(Jn 3:16-17)

a son who has always known and been with his father since the beginning; is born to us to finally show us how close God is to us; as God is Holy, and holiness is something we avoid, He is also our Father, a closeness we can relate to,.... a Son to show us who the Father is --- Christmas.

Merry Christmas everyone! Love, peace, joy and hope to all. :P

Yes, I do agree that Christmas had lost it's meaning on the most part.

Like the above mentioned and to those who don't know yet, Christmas is actually the date whereby Jesus was born.

But sadly, in this space age era, Christmas had become more of a "festival" sort of celebration and of course not to mention that the main focus of the majority for Christmas is not the birth of Christ but the presents they are going to receive.

Churches on the other hand, had still held on to the true meaning of Christmas which is still a good thing but for the others, it might be a holiday or a time whereby there is a large demand for presents (toys especially).

I think that it is not wrong to have the spirit of sharing and giving but at least we must know what Christmas really is, even if we are non Christians

But if you tame me, we shall need each other.

To me, you will be unique in all the world.

To you, I shall be unique in all the world...

Christmas is actually the date whereby Jesus was born.

On the contrary, 25th December isn't really the birth date of Jesus. It is something which commercialism invented. If I am not wrong, the true birth date of Jesus is somewhere in April. ;)

For me, I think Christmas is to celebrate and remember the birth of Christ that he died for our sins. It is not his true birthday. :peace:

Yes. Christmas is the OCCASION that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus. However, the actual DATE of His birth is probably in April/May as pointed out by CityofAngels. The shepherds would not have been out at night in winter (Dec) in Israel.

Anyway, MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

:D

Haha tks for telling me

I'm a free thinker and my uncle told me that yesterday so I thought so

But nonetheless, it is still an open debate as there is still some difficulty to change that Christmas=presents way of thought

I'm just glad that I've learnt something more about Christmas this year
