PH dropping

Hi fellow reefers,

Is it normal for PH level to drop during night time? Will it rebound again during the following day? If its not normal, is there anything i can do to keep my PH level stable?

It is normal for pH to drop during night time as the carbon dioxide produced from respiration reacts with water to form carbonic acid.

It will usually return back to normal during the day but if you want to keep it stable, grow macroalgae under reverse photoperiod which means to turn the refugium lights on during the night.

Noted, i don't have a refug/sump. Will monitor the PH level for the next few days and see how it goes. Was Given advice to drip Kalk during the night time to maintain my PH level. Is it advisable?

That would work too but if you drip it everyday, you might overdose it so be extra careful when dosing kalkwasser to keep pH high

Hiya,

My PH level this morning @ 1000 am was ard 8.0. Anyone has any idea if it'll go back to the 8.3 level yesterday as the day progresses without me doing anything?

My PH seems to drop in the night but doesn't rebound back to the previous level the next day? Any fellow reefers can help me solve this problem? I haven't tried dripping kalk at night yet, trying to see if there are other methods....thanks in advance.

Do note, its ideal to have it at 8.3 but not a must.

Most reefers hav it in the range of 7.9 to 8.2 thruout the day.

Btw, wat did u use to test ur pH? test kits or electronics?

Im currently using a Pinpoint PH monitor. Used to use test kits but invested in the monitor last week. Anyway, thanks for your reply.
