Yes, I guess a tank opening ceremony will be nice. But looking at how things is going. Chrismas or CNY are very likely the date.

Xmas party!!! :lol::lol::lol:

Wow... the LEDs are only at 20% power? Gonna be blindingly bright if go 100%

Hmmm like that if need to change LED need to desolder?

I think the desoulering part is not a problem at all... considering if get a commercial unit SOLARIS... the whole panel (25 LEDs) will probably has to be replaced  Even then... dunno how long will it take since it will not be widely available for a very long time :heh:

Huh? No lah 1 spoil doesnt mean replace whole thing lah, actually theres many ways to make an LED lighting system, LED sockets can be bought for the LEDs to be plugged in or removed easily but i was just curious why bro Alex went the oldschool copper board method mah cos u basically soldering them all onto the board in series if i'm not wrong.

Also i think lets not compare a DIY LED system to a few thousand dollars unit by Solaris lah, Solaris is fully computerised to simulate nature's lights in/out.

Oh seems like you guys are discussing on technical issues beyond my capability... i shall leave you guys on this topic  and learn :)

For brother who likes to DIY. Here is the link to the lens http://www.fraensrl.com/ and here is the link to the LED. Both this item cannot be bought off the shelf locally. it needs to be indented. I have some spares. Any body who like to try their hands on can get from me.

Definately this is better than Solaxxxx as mention before. The LED used is double the wattage use by Solaxxxx hence the need to mounte them on copper plate. As it needs a lot of cooling. Soldering is the only method. As this LED are design to be surface mounted on metal core PCB for the cooling needs.

The controller can be anything imaginable. As i am plaining to have them work through my LAN and control with a PC.

I am sure that LED does not breakdown that easily. Soldering is not too difficult either. According to specification from manufacturer, it should be good for 5 years, with my water cooled design. I am expecting to stretch them a bit further. But than again, in another 5 years, we should have even better efficient lighting.

Opps too fast again. Forget the link to the LED. http://www.luxeon.com/products/line.cfm?lineId=18 you can also find the LED use for Solaxxxx here.

ok slight comment then on the wiring, did u use thermal sleeves at the wire tips, from my experience the rubber armour of these normal type wires will melt and harden in time to come due to heat. The sleeves my company's electrician uses are white in colour, u can get them locally easily. Just cut to size and use a hair dryer til it moulds around forming a thermal protection around the wire.

Hi Soul. Thanks for the advise. Yes, I will be using the thermal sleeve. It is for electrical insulation. Not really for thermal protection.

This photo show the difference between normal office light and with the LED light. The camera speed and exposure are set at same setting for both photo.

Emm... seems like the spread is not very wide... as highlighted by some Solaris critics... but Solaris claim to have the deflector (or something) to achieve better coverage... will yours be able to cover your entire footprint?

The first photo are taken with high shutter speed to show the spread of light. Hence thoes show on photo are the concerntracted light beam (very bright). As seen on second photo. The back ground is an A1 size paper which is fully lighted with the concertracted beam. I have chosen the lens at 45 deg. But seem like it is less than that, but anywhere I think this should be the right lens as my light will be 1 meter from the sand bed.

judging from the pics i think i know wats the problem, the LEDs might be arranged too close together thus the short width spectrum produced. Maybe u can try hooking up just 1 LED then turn it on against a wall and measure the spectrum width (height dun need to measure i guess). Then calculate a more wide spread arrangement on the copper plate so the spectrums crossfire each other better. Of cos u'd have to redo the copper and cooling plates then but since u using it for 5yrs or more better to do it right right? Just a suggestion anyway.

Also, are u using anything to control dimming effects?

Good work anyways .... Cheers

 Does it mean that for 5ft tank, you need much better equipment than a 4ft tank. Difference very great in equipment cost for a 4ft and a 5ft???

Yes :eyebrow:
