If l'm not wrong, the seniors can correct me, doc fish (cleaner wrasse) does NOT eat white spots/ich at all but another kind of parasites. If fact, they themselves will get white spots on their bodies and die of that too.

The white spots that disappeared from yr fishes are highly unlikely 'cos of the doc fish eating them. It may be a case that the white spots dropped off to develop into the next stage (there is life cycle diagram in one of the threads), or those could be just stress spots on yr fishes.

As some bros have mentioned, doc fish's survival rate is extremely low in captivity cos of their diet. Though some reefers have managed to keep them alive, many others don't. So, it's better to leave them in the ocean to clean up the fishes there as they serve a critical role in their natural environment than in our tanks with such a low survival rate.

 yup.

wat u mention is correct.

a lot of research still need to be done in regards to marine fishes..

unlike freshwater fishes...marine fishes are just catch from sea and nothing much is really known abt them.

cleaner wrasse happened to be one of the victims around with some of the butterfly and other fishes...

hi i have a cleaner surviving somewhere in my tank, feeding on crushed pellets in powder form. What i know is a higher probability of survival is to get one for a tank no matter how big your tank is. more cleaner wrasse = more competition = less food faster die. :)

Two experiences....

The first time was during my initial learning phase when I read about the "cleaning capability" of cleaner wrasse but it never mention about survival rate.... and when I saw one in LFS and the price is cheap, bought it, lasted a few days....

The second attempt is when there was a outbreak of ick on tangs and could not find any cleaner shrimps except cleaner wrasse.... lasted longer but still perish....

:) Greeting :)

yah i really hope the price of these lovely fish will shoot up to maybe $100 per piece so to deter people from trying or testing them in their tank!! :P

My experience:

1. buy on Saturday

2. Swim around for 3 days

3. Don't want to eat, then disappear

4. Couldn't find the dead body

5. algae boom, water condition goes down.....

Honestly should only go for Cleaner Wrasse that is already feeding as most would not survive captivity. Not sure if that would mean that they will be lazy in cleaning off our fishes off parasites ;)

I do know that Henry from ML has pretty high success rate in getting these hard to feed creatures to feed on his reef gourmet.

these fishes even if feeding also will still have a chance to die easily, not the food that matters but the specimen.

u dun need any super formulae or gourmet to make them feed, so most reefers should know that most cleaner wrasse feed quite easily. it depends on the specimen.

If it's bad, no matter what food u feed them, also no point.

tried a few times and currently manage to keep one alive for long.

previously all of them manage to feed on both frozen and pellet foods.

Iwarna, ML and alot of LFS have these alive in their tanks. but don't be fool.

they are LFS, ask urself what's their tank condition and how mature are these tanks.

and they ship in so many of them, the one u see surviving in their tank is only what u see.

how do we know how many cleaner wrasses they place in order to get one surviving and going ?

nothing against them becos i also get my stocks from LFS, but just to remind the public.

What u see may not be what you get.

and alot of other hard-to-feed or hard-to-keep fishes, how many times we heard stories of these fishes feeding but still dying ? so many issues are related to the fishes themselves not how good the food or what is the lighting...blah blah... it's true that food is important for long term immunity,

but how to think of long term health when it can't even survive short term.

just my 2cents(or 5cents ;)).

:D

Cheers

Past and present, have tried keeping 3 times so far. Amazing thing is each of them disappeared into crevice at 7pm SHARP to sleep. Problem is that all the 3 disappeared after 2-3 months, with only 1 body found! Feeding well, but quite prone to infections, or probably they pick up the bugs and could not clean themselves?

mine died this morning,

survived 2months in my tank...

kinda sad,

wont be getting another one...

when it died it was so skinny...

must be lack of food....
