We do have some senior reefer in this forum and they might able to add more comments.

Just my 2 cents: The frequency of water change is really depend on the system running and also what someone want to archeive. I had read the book named "Utlimate 50 tanks of the world" (hope I remember the title correctly), that those reefer change water varies from once evry 2 weeks to once every quater.

For mine, as I am only keeping FOWLR, I do it every 2 weeks with 10%. However the PO4 seem high. As long as my fishes are happy, I am OK.

Not a good thing to see most reefers change waters once a month.

Changing of waters is the most tedious thing most reefers find it as you have to prepare the waters, siphon some of the waters out from the tank and add new ones. And i noticed some of the aquarium designs especially the hood makes it even more troublesome which i experienced before.

But yet changing of waters is the most essential maintenance for the long term health of corals and fishes and to reduce nitrate level.

That i believe depends on each individual tank. I do only 15% water change only once a month in a mix reef tank.

My Nitrate(nope no denitrator) and phosphate had been zero for the past one year and the last time i change my rowa was at least 9 months ago.

Dun ask me how i achieve that as i have no idea as well :eyebrow:

i change water from the sump tank -.- my tank very tall...hard to siphon out water from main tank. thus, i change water every week. 2 jerry cans. i know the amount of waste taken away when i change is limited coz i change from sump, but really dam tedious to do from the main tank....so high the cabinet everything. so i make up for it by doing water change every week

i intend to use some dosing pump to replenish water lose but also use it to change water for my next setup. now still in the planning stage. this round. i want my all my tank to be in a good support system where replenishing of important elements done by Dosing pump and change water too gradually and not too sudden.

hope my plan will work..

I am just an average FR (fish reefing) writer. If you like my FRs, please upz my points.

i meaasure my parameters weekly, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 0 nitrate.

So i did not change water for the past 4 weeks.

Is it correct?

All corals and fishes look fine.

my reading is like yours but I change it regardless.

in case some of the other elements are depleted.

Mine is a nano though and changing of 7litres of water is a breeze.

Ever since the arrival of my baby girl, i have not change water for my 6ft for close to 5 mths (last one in dec).

I do not have a high bioload, approx about 10 fishes, including shit bulls like 1x yellow tang and 1x regal blue. Beening feeding only pellets 2x a day, and nori 1x every 2 days.

Mine is mixed lps and sps. SPS is still growing well.

I do have a diy algae scrubber, deltec skimmer, and recently the np biopellet, all running currently.

The system seems to be running well. And i am exploring using direct tap water (with conditioner) as top up water. Previously using DI water as top up.
