Find a PC power supply to run the peltier.

First short the green and adjacent black wire in the big molex.

More detail in another DIY project.

I think your peltier element might be too small to cool your tank efficiently. I have seen people modifying the Dolphin 150W TEM cooler and they use two huge fans and two huge heat sinks and even then for a 2ft tank, they are only able to cool it down to ard 25-26degC.

My Setup:

3x2x2 tank with IOS

Equipment List:

Chiller: Artica 1/5HP

Chiller Pump: Sicce 4000

Return Pump: OR3500

Skimmer: Deltec APF600

Wavemaker: Tunze Wavebox/2x Hydor K2/SCWD wavemaker

Lights: DElighting 2x150W MH + 2x 39W T5 Atinic

FR: Skimz

FR Pump: Atman AT-104

Tubby ATO, Kalkweisser Reactor with magnetic stirrer.

I wonder if you get an old minibar or small fridge and strip out the compressor and cooling coil, whether it will be a worthwhile DIY for nano.

I believe people have done that before but what they did was to get a mini bar with a freezer compartment and drilled two holes in the mini bar and then passed the water hose through the mini bar where the freezer compartment is.

Bro, will there any water contact with the heat sink? Care to explain how to remove the heat? Like Ice Probe, they have an Aluminum probe coated with some epoxy to be in the water to remove heat away. Is yours going to be similar principle?

Thanks... very curious to know.

Hi, Sherman,

Wish to share my experience on this peltier cooler.

I got this picotank size (Reef) 15in x 8.5" in my office (Include refigium). My office aircond always turn off on Weekend.

Temperature measurement can go as high as 30 Deg.

Well i need to cool them down. The picture shown a peltier sandwich between 2 aluminium heatsink. + Fan (this fan also contribute to my water evaporation).

I understood that when times come, the heat sink could melt and cause the saltwater mix with this aluminium ion. Fortunately,

i had been running for 4~5 months now but i don't see any effect on my reef+Fish. Partially could be cause by changing water

weekly of 10~20%. Up to date no rush but green algae form at the aluminium plate.

Overall temperature in the worse case weekend can maintain around 27 Deg. I'm happy now.

But how big is your tank is the main concern. (Mine been light up by 5 T5 tube and Moonligh + Refigium Light + Return pump).

So, actually, it could help by bring down only 1~2 Deg but that is what i want.

Here is the picture.

Hope this help.

Thanks.,

miketeo

There are different methods to cool down the water.

Iceprobe use a ceramic probe to transfer the coolness to the tank water.

We can use the water block method.

Meaning we sit the water block on the peltier(s)

The peltier will cool the water block.

We run water into the water block and the water will be cool down.

But very hard to find water block on 2nd hand market.

And they do not sell alone in Singapore market.

Maybe there are bros here can help to machine a water block.

Any one can help?

bro you know i'm quite clueless about these diy stuff. But was reading some sites on cooling pc and one of their methods of cooling was using a radiator - in fact, straight out from cars! Maybe we can find a sg equivalent here?

"The most popular heater cores for water cooling are those from the 1984 Chevrolet Chevette and 1977 Pontiac Bonneville, due to their perfect sizes for full tower cases. The Chevette core has the correct surface area for a single 120 mm fan, while the Bonneville core is large enough to accommodate two. These can be purchased at most auto repair stores for between $20 and $30."

Again, I hope it helps, otherwise paiseh paiseh!
