i have a 3ft X 1.5ft X 1.5ft - abt 50 Gallon tank..

Currently using 36W X 2 Blue white PL lights

Generally soft coral, but i wanna keep some LPS in the future!

Should i upgrade to T5 HO lights?..

Will 39W X 2 T5 HO be sufficient if i keep the LPS at high levels?

Considering the cost of electricity wouldnt wanna upgarde to High power or Metal Highlight as i am running my tank without chiller.

tank temperature is around 27 deg with cooling fan!

Yes 2x 39 W T5HO is sufficient. I know some ppl uses 4x 39W ( 2 sets.)

Eqpt: Deltec MCE 600, Tunze 6055 with Tunze 7091 controller, Artica 1/15 HP chiller, AquaIllumination Sol Blue LED Light System

2011 resolution : Do it simpler, better and in an easier way!

T5 and PL lights can be used if you are keeping just LPS and Softies. My preference would be for you to change to a 4x39W T5 fixture. Reason being with 4 lights, you can mix and match the tubes to create the effect you want. Some fixtures have 2 on/off switches which allow you to switch on/off 2 tubes at a time.

39W x2 will be sufficient for most LPS even if you put them on your sand bed. But you would be quite constrained in terms of choice of tubes.

My Setup:

3x2x2 tank with IOS

Equipment List:

Chiller: Artica 1/5HP

Chiller Pump: Sicce 4000

Return Pump: OR3500

Skimmer: Deltec APF600

Wavemaker: Tunze Wavebox/2x Hydor K2/SCWD wavemaker

Lights: DElighting 2x150W MH + 2x 39W T5 Atinic

FR: Skimz

FR Pump: Atman AT-104

Tubby ATO, Kalkweisser Reactor with magnetic stirrer.

Yeah i would prefer 2X 39W White

& 2 X 39W Blue

But i will use only one at a time not both together

Can anyone tell me if T5 would be brighter than PL lights considering both are almost the same in energy consumption.

T5 is higher output than normal PL lights so yes, T5 will be much brighter than PL lights.
