Hai,

Before decided... you may need to check....

What is your water volume? Pls find below the cooling capacity ability chart....

post-9248-12743119246197_thumb.jpg

Where do you locate your iceprobe? (Advice keep them in smoother flow area, Do not install them in cabinet, you will end up increase cooling time due to heat dissipate from ice probe.Cause in general, the other side of iceprobe are very hot..They need adequate ventilation to perform good job)

How you mount it? (better if your have 1.25inch hole beside your tank, in order to fully ultilies cooling capacity)

What is your cooling expectation?

If say your tank volume ~20Gallons. and T5/PL lights and one return pump + wave maker.. with one ice probe your max cooling capacity ~2 degree only...

And I found thermal electric device degraded fast long run.... So just FYI......

Below is the Working Manual for Coolworks Iceprobe.... I get mine previously from ReefDepot...

IPAC-50Manual10-28-03.pdf

But after all, I found for small tank resun280 is the better approach and cheaper to me... Just my opinion :)

Cheers.....

Really appreciate your information bro. Forget to add in more background details of my tank. I am using a 1ft cube tank (probably around <7 gallon after adding live rock and 2" sand bed) with 32w T5 lighting and wavemaker running. If I am getting the iceprobe, my plan is to mount it onto a hang on filter. Here is a link to my thread

Was advice by a couple of nice bro on getting iceprobe, so trying to get a second hand but tough :) Therefore thinking of getting a new one. Thanks

I agree with getting resun280 (i wish i could, family grumbling - plans to make is it as small as possible), but footprint of the chiller is too big for my location. Mind if you could elaborate on TEC degrading, anything happen to your iceprobe?

hey bro whq, hope my inputs help. just drop me a message anytime.

yes RD sells them, as of last week they still do have some stocks, easily about 4 i think. again key points to note IMO :

1) 2 degrees is what to expect as typical, 4 degrees is possible. depends on your tank size, and your ambient temperature. your nano size should be ok.

2) one thing to note is I hardly saw the impact of using this almost 24/7 in the PUB bills

3) i'd opt for HOB installation (which is what i did) than bulkhead. it is easier to cool a small volume of water with some decent flowrate than trying to cool the whole tank volume. with some added media in the HOB (like biopellets), also helps to maintain the cool temperature eventually.

4) it is quiet ... not whisper quiet, but yes quiet, otherwise my GF will complain :argue: . i hear the waves on the surface trickling more than the fan noise.

5) the green LED at the back acts as a moonlight for the tank (hehe, yup, GREEN !) i don't have any moonlight anyway, so there you go ... :yahoo:

6) easy maintenance - once a week, i'd clean the HOB. just unplug, and bring the whole thing to wash.

for now, i have it turned off during aircon days / nights, planning to get a timer for this. i don't have the temp controller. coz if i don't, i've measured the tank to go down as much as 23-24 deg ... waaay too cold. other than the aircon cooling the water, the heatsink gets cooler as well, thus i get more effective heat exchange between it and the chip.

overall, for me the ice probe is - :groupwavereversed::thumbsup:

no problem bro. hey, keep me posted on your sea horse tank ... my GF interested, so may eventually try :eyebrow:

Oh, I sold mine less than half year usage... forgot which bro bought it from me (all my pm's gone during forum upgrade).. + delivery to him... Hihi...

I installed it in my DIY sump cabinet.. resulted over heat cabinet issue, I have to open the cabinet door all the time... not very presentable... Therefore, I decide to let go... Haha.. think back.. During Nano tank... I tried fan, ice cube, ice probe, DIY's... end up still chiller the best.....

for TEC degradation.. as My previous work place used lots of Peltier cooler for cooling tester purposes.. same fundamental as IceProbe....I realize we need to replace them every one or two years....therefore, I believe the design integration not really durable yet... And further more we are in air-con environment.. expected dryer.... imagine, uses it at home.. higher humidity with TEC Cold and Heat thermal shock lead more condensation.... become another issue to handle in electronic circuit in long term usage.......

base on the cooling capability Vs cost.. you need to decide which one to choice... Just my opinion....

The best, consult ReefDepot for their opinion... above just share my personal experience.....

Pls find here web link on how Peltier works...

Thank you for your detail explanation. Been searching high and low for this kind of product review.

Thanks bro. This is something interesting to note. Definitely information from people in peltier technology will know. For my case, think chiller may be impossible, so have to fall back on iceprobe.

Bro thanks for all the reviews. Though there is good and bad reviews, this really highlight to me that whether it work anot really depend on my location and environment. Guess i will go ahead and try it :)

Thanks all bro that contribute, be it in PM or in this thread. Really learn alot. Thanks again!

Bro whq , have u considered teco micro chiller? it is using same technology and very quiet . it performs cooling and heating to your set temperature by itself, i have no problem keeping at 27deg on my nano. $330 or so.

Thanks Bro ACCK,

Yup, I did consider that before. Think one of the bro is selling it. PMed but no reply. Do you have the rough footprint of the chiller? Cannot find any details on it from the Teco site (as they have remove it from production). Hoping the bro will get back to me soon as i am urgently looking at getting a chiller. Thanks again!
