8 days into cycling and 4 days since i threw in a market prawn. Prawn has finally disappeared and ammonia is around 1 and nitrates around 20, so coming along nicely.

We spotted a little crab that hitch-hiked in on the live rock (I didn't want to cure the live rock we bought as it has good coraline and stuff growing, as you can see).

We did catch him tho - using a small glass jar with market prawn in it (sorry about pic quality - i used my Blackberry).

Tank has cycled for 3 weeks. Thanks to live sand and live rock, ammonia is 0 and Nitrates below 5. So we are starting to add some fish one by one. First was a sand goby, and next was a copper band. The malu fish go in first and the more aggressive later.

Will start adding coral in another week or so, and more fish then too.

The tank has been running for 6 weeks. Caught a total of three crabs using the glass jar trap I showed a few posts ago (it works really well). I think that's all the crabs now!

Over the last couple of weeks we have been stocking the tank. The inventory is now:

Fish

  • Copper band
  • Coral beauty
  • Pair of banggai cardinals
  • Pair of fire fish
  • Pair of clowns
  • Hector’s goby
  • Tail spot blennie
  • Pair of cleaner shrimps
  • Little red fish

    Corals

    • Torch coral
    • Hammer coral
    • Bubble coral
    • Orange mushrooms

Some of you might think that's too much for a 18" x 17" nano, but....we have a good sized sump, a high water return rate and an excellent skimmer (I highly recommend the Bubble Magus skimmer for a nano. Total water volume of the tank plus sump is around 90 litres (24 gallons).
