  1. Very beautiful tank.... Gd job there bro

    Hi hammy

    thanks !

Wow!!! really love the lots of fishes concept, so many of my fav fishes in the tank.

Thanks bro hammy for bringing out this interesting thread out for my learning, really can't stop flipping through all the pages last midnight.

Btw how are you bro Jacky? No updates for the pass one year, where hv u been? Or any kind bro out there can tell me...heehee. Tks

    Hey Happyreef

I have been very busy with work and have decommed for the time being.

Next tank will be of a different concept.... something more peaceful.... mandarin fishes, seahorses, pipefishes etc.

    cheers!

  2. hey bro

    my 2 cents worth:

    1) go for 2 ft cube. The larger the better

    2) ditch the cannister - go for sump.

    3) get a good skimmer - drop Digibee a pm. he is selling his Skimz SM161. something you might want to consider.

    4) 4 tubes of lighting

    5) I use D&D salt. happy so far and no intention of changing

    6) Get a chiller.

    7) Get a DI unit. Those resin refillable ones.

The things above cost more for a start up but you will save more in the long run.

    Good luck bro !

  4. Wow! I spent the last half an hour reading from post 1 to here. Actually I took (well, tried to take) inspiration from your scapes and tried to replicate in mine. Mine really cmi big time haha.

I have actually read the first few pages of your post before, but still am in awe again of the rockscape you can create.

    Thumbs up!!

lol thanks for the compliments, Kaykay !

  5. I have decided on the following:

    • Black and White Mix Live sand
    • Hydor koralia Nano Wave maker
    • Maxspect G2-110W (With Clamp)
    • Bubble Magus Nac QQ Skimmer
    • Fiji Rocks from CF

Cool Bell. Thanks for the clarification. Nice list of eqpt. Just something for you to ponder before you purchase

    - Koralia nano - pretty weak.... see if you wanna get a Tunze 6025 instead. Size is slightly bigger but definitely with better circulation

    - Maxspect - 110W - with clamp or with the stand that rest on top of the tank? The one with clamp should be smaller 60W version. I recall G2 comes with 2 extendable bars to support the lightset. Also note that the shortest length it can retract to is 2 feet unless you saw away the excess of the stand. else part of it will protrude out when you put on top of your tank.

    - BM skimmer - you have an IOS so skimmer choice is pretty limited. just see if there is anyway to put a sponge to trap bubbles from the outlet to prevent them from leaking into to the display tank

    - CF rocks.... pricey but worth every penny. 2 thumbs up

    - Chiller .. if you wanna get hold of a artica 1/15 hp which I previously used for my 1.5 ft cube. just drop me a pm.

    - Rockscape.... you can check out some of the scaping I did previously on my 1.5 ft as reference. tank thread on my signature.

    - IOS ... I assume your IOS is compartmentised to have mechnical, biological and chemical filtration. if not, will be good to ask Vincent to build that in.

  6. Hi all! Thanks for your concern! Let's wait for the tank to come, everyone seemed to be more worried than i am. Im pretty flexible with things, if the chiller cant be placed in the cabinet i'll just put it outside. If its unable to work for my tank size i'll just sell it off and get a new one :) Take a chill pill GUYS!!

Everyone is more worried you are because a lot of us have gone down the same path and are keen for you to avoid the same pitfalls as they did. Thats the purpose of having this reefing community and thats the passion that they have in the hobby and towards reefing buddies. in your shoes, I would be more grateful to those comments and study them closely to shorten learning curve instead of asking them to chill.

  9. pics la dei....pics!

lazy leh... when I get motivated...

    Wow. Crowded tank.

hi Jacky , what do you do to handle the high bio load?

Hi Zico.... just usual..... nothing special. My maintenance is pretty low. WC once every 4 - 6 weeks, change carbon every 2 - 3 months.

running rowa in an FR. But I make it a point to feed only pellets. No frozen.

Curious bro jacky. Y u don't use substrate? Personal preference? Or water cleaner & less maintenance?

Hi jkit, I would love to have sandbed...... but a lot of detritus actually gets trapped in the sandbed. When you siphon, you can only do so to the exposed areas.

For those below the rocks or inaccessible areas, a lot of dirt will be trapped. With BB, I usually use the wavemaker to blow all the hidden detritus to the front of the tank and siphon them out. Maybe this help to keep the water cleaner.

Hope this help. A lot of times, I just attribute to good fortune that I manage to obtain healthy specimens. I think that is crucial to high surival rate.

    cheers !
