Brown Algae

Dear Bros,

I got alot of brown Algae on my sandbed, is it harmless???? How do i control my Algae, my No2,No3 is 0 but Po4 is 0.25 i alway get 0.25 using API test kits. I have use henry Po4 but so far never come down. What should i do to control my Algae, what eat algae good beside sea cucumber & snail.

You will get brown algae when you cycle your tank. You may need to check your phosphate level, if high, hair algae may come out. Just my experience since setting up my tank 3 weeks ago. Cheers.

Yup, diatoms come with cycling of the tank. Continue with water chg weekly, don't add anymore livestock, & use silicate removers. Serra has a quite cost effective one. Rowapos is the more expensive one. I used both when i was cycling my tank.

I am having the same problem after controlling NO3 and PO4. Will algeafix work for a fish only tank. I read about not having the lights switch on for too long which will also contribute to brown algea growth.

Have respect for others...,listen....share and value experience..............
