  1. Hi bro.

the finage a bit yellow? body shape like powder blue tang? if so, its a hybrid tang.. is there any red or orange patch near the end of the top finage? i saw them at CF. very nice..

    Hi Sgreefclub!

    I bought a fish abt 3weeeks back.

Not sure what breed is it.

It occasionally flashes luminous Blue lines on it's body.

Has brown body that of of power brown. Shape is that of a typical surgeon fish.

Eats like a pig. from pellets to mysis to algae flakes.

Need an ID. Cant seem to find pictures of it online. Could it be a hybrid of clown surgeon and powder brown?

    :)

  2. hi bro.

i koe a friend who kept a couple of clowns and damsel n a 2 ft tank.. he had been doing it for 2 yrs, using overhead filter.. simple fowlr... totally no skimmer at all... and his clowns seems very happy.... he told me that he collect sea water for his waterchange as his office is just less than 100m from the seaside...

Any brothers encounter this? is it possible to keep a fowlr or a reef tank with no skimmer at all, providing water change is by the sea water collection? Thought of doing so as my office is also steps from a jetty... i believe the watersare rather safe as i had seen before bannerfish in groups near my jetty...

  6. aiyah bro... im late...

Looking for nice fish to fill my tank.... haiz...

live rocks & tube worm taken by alex(newbie).

fishes now RIP :cry2: as last min alex cant take the fishes as he is cycling his tank(1week).

As nobody want the fishes, no choice had to put back into tank. as nitrate level shoot up after i remove the live rocks, all fishes go to neverland

  7. Hi bro..

Pls advise...if I had done correctly

    1) Filter - I had settled for Ehiem classic 2213. The first layer that takes in the raw water is the mechanic filter (the blue colour filter that comes with it. After that, i put in a kg of biohome. and lastly another layer of white filter before the water goes back to the tank.. I am oso using the old small underpower cannister....before the new filter runs in totally.. oh ya,, i did not add in carbon or phostrates remover into the ehiem.is it recommended? pocket burn a hole liao... can i slowly add them in future?

    2) Water - I had also added in 1/2 of my old tank water and another half of the newly purchase sea water...

    3) Live rocks - using my old live rocks, together with a few new live rocks (Given by a fellow reefer who had kept them for 5 years) to assist in the filtration system.

    4) skimmer - im using Jebo p.skimmer with AP1500 powerhead, but this time round, i have put the whole skimmer in the tank, at the back as there is no more space around the tank. Previously i used to hang it at the back of the tank.

    5) Though I thought of cycling the new tank for a few days, but my boss is looking at me.. haiz..no choice, I got to carefully released all the corals and livestocks i have into the new tank... Im praying hard that they will be able to adapt.... coz..im not allowed to keep 2 tanks....and have to remove the other by today..

    6) So far, my doctor fish, damsel and cleaner shrimps have no probs.. a few hours after inside the tank,, now they are curously exploring the tank. However, my blue stugeon is still hiding inside the rocks...

Assuming your tank has no sand, using more of your old tank water maybe a better choice as it reduces the change in total environment. If you have sand, I don't think there's a shortcut. Once you move your sand, the bio-filter is disturb (anaerobic nitrifying bacteria is killed) and only way is to cycle normally.

With regards to your new canister. If you intend to build bio-filtration, you'll need substrate/substrate pro with Mech or Mech Pro as first level mechanical filtration. Do note that 2211 is not compartmentalized so you'll need a fiber layer to separate the media. You should consider 2222 instead for easy media maintenance with it's individual compartments. You can top this off with a layer of carbon or phosphate remover. The configuration should be inflow -> Mech -> fiber -> Substrate -> fiber -> carbon and/or phosphate remover -> return flow. If you put the carbon and phosphate remover in mesh bags, you'll not

    need the fiber layer.

I recommend you run both filters for 3-4 weeks until the new filter has established bio-filtration.

Just my few cents worth. Good Luck

  8. Hi bros, need some advise..

Im currently running a 2ft by 1 ft by 1.5ft tank.... using Jebo 180 skimmer (with AP1500 powerhead) and a small resun cannister filter (200/l) super underpower.

I have about 10kg LRs with some corals esp mushies... housed with 2 cleaner shrimps, 1 blue damsel and 1 goby... So far, all very healthy....

I am changing into a slightly bigger tank (2ft by 1.5ft by 1.5ft) and due to my workplace, i am not allowed to have more than 1 tank....

    Therefore my questions is

    1) When i set up my new (2nd hand) tank, filled it with natural sea water bought from the farm, I placed my LRs in....Do i have to cycle for a month? I will be filling the new tank with 1/4 of the old water from my current tank and will be temperary using my old resun cannister, while waiting for the new ehiem cannister filter to runs in...

Most likely will be buying ehiem 2211 filter.... but what are the materials recommended to place inside the new cannister filter and at which compartment? I can onlycycle for 3-5 days as i need to get rid of the old tank....(office rules) thats y i will be using back the water from the current tank mixed with newly bought saltwater.... any advise from fellow bros?

Pls point out my mistakes if any...kindly enlighten me.... Is my skimmer powerfull enough? will be adding in a couple of fish when the tank had stablised (will be using test kits) but mean while, my current livestocks have to be placed in the tank after the fifth day before i get rid of my old tank..

    Pls advise..

  9. hi bro..

Im interested in some of your livestock... but not quite sure what u mean by the auction? is it per fish or package? nevertheless. i start bidding.. 5 bucks...

i am interested in the wole package but can contact me? sms me at 90662246. thanks.

    Hi all

Reason I am selling is because since I de-com and sold my 4ft tank, i kept a few of my favourite fish in a 2ft tank hoping a OHF was enough but can see that the fish are quite stress. They are eating fine but I think its better for them to find a new home. All on pellets, eating well.

Not sure if you guys do auctions but here goes:

    Have the following for sale:

    (1) 1 blue tang - about 3-3.5inches (has brown patches on face since moved to new tank)

    (2) 1 sailfin tang - about 4-5 inches

    (3) 1 six line wrasse - about 3-3.5 inches

    (4) 2 fire clowns - about 2 inches

    (5) 1 skunk clown - about 3-3.5 inches

    (6) 1 goby (don't know what type but its white with orange stripes)

    (7) 1 sea cucumber

    (8) 2 anemone - very beautiful (quite ex when I bought!)

    (9) 1 normal clown - about 3 inches

    (10) 1 hermit crab

Will FOC one big piece of LR to which the anemone and clown are attached. And also have sand enough for 2-3ft tank.

Here are the terms of the auction:

    Start price: $1

    Min increment: $2

    Buy Now Price: $50

If the buyer wants the 2x1x1 ft tank it will be an additional $10 to the final bid price.

If the buyer wants the Atman OHF (without media) it will be an additional $15 to the final bid price.

    Closing Date : Saturday 20th June 2009 @ 2359 hrs SG time

Collection: at block 502 Pasir Ris Street 52. Will provide bag.

    Conditions:

    (1) Must collect on Sunday as I may not be free to deal on weekdays. Please do not bid if you are unable to meet this condition.

    (2) Must take all! (Its a de-com sale!)

Highest bidder will get the deal.

As stated in house rules, there will be no reserve price.

All bids to state clearly on this thread.

Please pm or post your contact numbers.

Bids w/o contact numbers will not be recognized.

    All bidding in dollars only.

    No private messaging.

    :thanks:

  10. When you are cycling your tank, no need to skim. Check out other threads there fellow reefers have given lots of info on cycling. it'll help.

    Okie. Thanks bro...

Im still reading thru the threads... i see a lot of stars...haha.. thanks... thought of putting cotton wool.. but afraid that the output too much and wil spill over the tank edge. But will try to adjust the wool in the mean while. Thanks....

Will appreciate any other advise or comment also.. Happy marine keeping, guys..

  11. Hi,

Recently decided to convert my fresh water 2ft tank in my office to marine keeping.

Decided to keep FOWLR but due to my office is 24 hrs aircon, so may decide to take advantage of the cold surrounding.

My tank (2ft by 1 ft by 1 ft) previoiusly use for circlids keeping

    I have done the followings.

    1) Filled tank with sea water (Purchased from Coral farm)

    2) connected Jebo 180 protein skimmer with AP1500 powerhead)

    3) Connected resun C-20 mini cannister filter 200L/Hr (But i think super underpower)

    4) Add in 3 kg of live rocks, 0.5 cm thin layer of sand (from beach, already rinse and cleaned)

    5) Going to test for ammonia, followed by NO2 and NO3. (That will b e done somewhere in April) Will be going on a course, so I have the time luxury to allow the cycling process.

Any brothers here will like to comment on my processes and advise?

I discovered that my skimmer, is not skimming anything. Is it because there is no waste as i had not put in any live stocks..

The water output from the skimmer is too powerful and they generate a lot of tiny thin air bubbles. I had tried to control the valve of the airtube connecting to the skimmer, but it only control the power of the air bubbles. The air bubbles stiill exists.. Anyone can help me on that? Will appreciate all comments and criticism.. thanks bros..
