  2. I have to repost this because 2 different buyers did not turn up after they agree to the deal :(

If you are new to marine aquarium and wanted to give it a try without spending too much, this tank may be for you.

I had been able to maintain my tank below with the following equipments() without the use of a chiller)

Of course, discipline and regular water changes are required (unfortunately, I cannot sell you these :heh: )

I will be selling the equipment below as a set including the equipments, additives and the stand

Some scratches are unavoidable for a used tank

The tank lights has been modified by bro Sherman to have 9 X 3W blue LED + 9 X 3W white LED

This is one of the reason that allow nice corals without the use of chillers.

The LED light set alone costs me about $500 when new.

I have chosen good equipment with low watts to reduce heat load

  6. Jbj have a few models - 24gal is with normal lights while 28 gal comes with the LED version. Of course, led is better but I believe it costs at least 2x or 3x more. It is always a compromise between features and cost. Just google and you will find out more.

  7. wa, where u buy your tank from?

I forgot to mentioned that I brought mine from Aquamarin about 4 years back ( initially I thought that it was only 3 years) ? Back then I knew almost nothing about marine. I paid additional some money from them to help deliver the tank and setup the tank with salt water and do simple landscaping. I strongly recommend this for a beginner.

Along the way, I made many mistakes but learn more about keeping marine aquarium through reading this forum and from trial and error.

The 24 gal is the best option for beginners to learn and decide whether they like the hobby. If if you gave up, the cost is still not that great.

Any tank smaller will be too unstable for a beginner. Actually the cheapest way is to buy 2nd hand and get someone experienced to set it up initially.

  8. This is the standard 24 gal jbj nano cube where you can get from many places. The additional additional things I buy is the wave maker and change the stock pump that comes with it. I believe that the boyu version is even cheaper. I am using a minimalists approach in setting up this tank. Of course, I will be able to have nicer fish and corals if I have invested in more better equipment.

  9. I have a JBJ 24g nano cube for more than 3 years now.

I assume that you want to keep both fishes & corals

The main advantage is that it is very compact and neat.

If you want to have a chiller with this system, you need to modify the cover slightly to allow for it.

With the chiller, it is not more "untidy" and you are better off having a open tank with a sump.

However, keeping corals and fishes in a nano tank without a chiller has its challenges.

You need to do the following if you want to sustain your tank

    1) Have a small fan installed to bring down the temperature slightly

    2) Have to top up about 300ml of DI water due to evaporation caused by the fan

    3) Can only have 3-4 fishes (clownfish is one of the better choice)

    4) Need to have choose corals that is more tolerant to higher temperature and not very ideal water conditions (lack of skimmer)

    5) I avoid using nano skimmer because they are not very effective but add heat load to the tank

    6) To overcome the lack of skimmer, have to change about 10 litres of water every week.

If you are discipline and can do the above consistently, you will be able to sustain a reasonable nice marine tank with relatively low cost.

Most people cannot do it because they cannot resist the urge to buy more corals/fishes and do not change water regularly.

Too many fish will cause the tank to crash due to excessive bio load.

You really need to read up to understand the type of coral or fish suitable for such small tank (Choice is quite limited)

If you are not disciplined enough, you are better off buying a bigger tank with better proper equipment (chillers, skimmers etc)

Hard to to do this below $500.

  10. CFoh,

Thanks for your quick reply and suggestion

    1. What is the name of the pests?

    Flatworms

    2. What is the cause of the outbreak?

They normally come with yr newly purchase corals or Live Rock as hitchhiker.. Why they bloom? Check yr feeding routine or tank nutrient level.

    3. Are they harmful to my fish or Coral?

This type may only cause irritation to some corals but not really harm... but long term may result some negative impact as another indication of high nutrient

    4. How do I get rid of them?

Try velvet nudibranch, Yellow Wrasses, Mystery wrasse, Radiant wrasses or Siphon them when WC..

    5. What should I do?

"Frequent WC, Siphon them manually get flatworm predators.."

    Good Luck....
