I've got a few 200-micron filter socks with 7inch ring and 16inch depth to be sold at $11/each.
Pickup at Suntec (office hrs) or Rivervale Crescent (evenings)
PM me or leave me your contact.
Cheers

i hope you are dripping it in instead of pouring it in.
kalk misuses are lethal. do read up on it before even attempting to use it.
i looked through your tank thread.. whats the situation you wish to rectify by using kalk?
i think you can do without it actually, by using other methods
Looks like I've missed this...
I've added more corals (haven't updated that thread in a while), so trying to add some doses to help growth.
I've also gotten trace additives too, so will be testing around before I see what's good and what's not.

wow... i like this... going to try to set up soon..
thanks for the comments, but don't model after me, I was a marine newbie after all . But things have change a little bit as I got along the way.
have fun with your setup and you will learn lots from it.

Half a red pail is approx 10L, not as bad as we thought. Parameters might change slightly, but should be too much to affect what's in the tank.

For a 3ft sump, that's alot of water even for 30%, unless you haven't topped up for a long duration.
In that case, your tank's SG would have increased by quite a bit.
-
40% of sump water not 40% of sump tank. Dun get me wrong n hope didn't scared the bro here who tot that it was 40% of tank water...
All along I tot that topping up of freshwater is as good as changing water coz both required new water...
If that 40% is due to evaporation, then freshwater would be fine but I find that amount excessive.
However, as Peter has mentioned, you will need to reduce excess nutrients from the water and putting back trace elements (from your saltwater mixture). So a water change would still be necessary to keep the tank running in good order (unless you are certain that tank conditions are excellent and you dose trace elements)

Opps...now that I re-read the instructions, I seemed to have missed the word "freshwater".
Thanks for the highlight.

I have some difficulties adding kalkwasser.
Here's what I did. Utilising a plastic tub, scoop water from my refugium and dose small quantities of kalkwasser powder into the tub, before slowly reintroducing into my refugium. However despite how I stir, there are still powder on the surface. I sort of gave up after a while and just poured the remainder into the refugium (since I have no lifestocks there, just liverocks) and let it dissolve over time.
Does it take a long while for kalkwasser to dissolve in the water ?
Thanks

Between 1.021-1.024 would be a good range, looking at what you have now, you can just simply allow normal evaporation to take place and let the SG raise naturally to the desired level. And topup with saltwater mix (of a similar SG level) will do.

2 pieces collected, still have spares....

Using a 1000 would be just at the bottom end of the requirement for the 1/10, I would suggest you to utilise something of 2500l/hr so that the cooling is done more efficiently..

As you mentioned hobby
Hobby is something which is out of the box, and take your mind off work.
Looks like I had spent more time on hobby....LOL

hey hey.....the tank's a bit messy now, after so many comments of scaping upwards, I have added more rocks in the main tank.
Just a few cauliflower corals, and getting them stabalised.
No new pics yet, cos it's too ugly...ahha

Have a couple reservations, and still have spares.

That's very nice shots you have. The worms display is just great.
and this thread is soooo long....haha

As I have missed the bulk order, I've went ahead and gotten myself the 200micron filter socks of 7in ring diameter and 16in depth.
I have a few excess and would gladly let go at $11/each.
If interested, please drop me a message or leave your contact.

Your tank may be too small to have enough algae to support the algae blenny if it doesn't feed on pellets. Once you notice it's stomach gets thinner and thinner, you can either sell it here or let it up for adoption to a reefer with big tank. Don't wait 'cos it will die of starvation if you don't do anything to help if that happens.
Try to get a few bigger liverocks to scape and scape it upwards too, it'll be nicer.
So far so good for the blenny, have been eating off algae, flakes and nori, hope that keeps it well.
Will find a weekend to scape upwards, seemed like everyone is commenting on that. Good thing.

Nice to see your clowns enjoying the Anemone.
IMO, you should scape upwards.
Then will have more place for other coral.
Else, the look will be simple, with rocks at the bottom.
Do some Epoxy, but take it easy wor, with a few epoxy spreading over a period.
I've not tried any epoxy yet, still suffering from rock collapse when I scape. But will see how it goes first. Trying not too meddle too much for now until I have a better hang of marine tanks.
Thanks

Update......Here's how it looks a month later.
Move quite a fair bit of coral skeletons and rocks to the refugium below, now connected with a selfmade overflow pipe.
Clowns enjoying their new home
Anemone shifted base and found new footing
Curious goby looking at owner

That's quite a good deal of detritus collection overnight. So I guess if the sock gets too choked, it just overflows from the side into the sump.
-
Nice setup, however IMHO you should consider to relocate your power source.
not very safe to have it just below the tank, if you know what i mean.
Well, not much options for that, i guess I just have to realign it to the side.
-
Same thing actually. U still need to change the filters in the cannister otherwise the detritus will break down and turn into a nitrate factory within a few days especially if a lot of detritus is trapped by the filters. Furthermore since he is using a HOB skimmer, it is near impossible to connect the outlet of the cannister filter to the inlet of the skimmer. You will have a very high chance of overflowing the skimmer.
Actually, that's what I'm doing now, as in the output of my canister connecting to the input of the skimmer. And since the canister filer's flowrate is within recommended values that of the skimmer, it is functioning perfectly and skimming well.

5 micron would be an overkill, normally those normal under-the-sink replaceable cartridges have a wide range, 0.5-500 micron. So having 1 or 2 inline sounds to be a good water polisher. And the cartridges are cheap enough to be disposed on prolonged usage. Well, sourcing of a higher micron cartridge might need some effort.
-
Looks like another way is to pipe it thru a regular under-the-sink water filter canister with micron filters, I think that should work. Just a matter of cost. I think those are pretty affordable to replace.

That's a very interesting way. I've only dose it fortnightly, I guess that's still pretty ok. But the amount I use might be too much.
thanks for the advice.
