  1. i hope you are dripping it in instead of pouring it in.

kalk misuses are lethal. do read up on it before even attempting to use it.

i looked through your tank thread.. whats the situation you wish to rectify by using kalk?

i think you can do without it actually, by using other methods

    Looks like I've missed this...

I've added more corals (haven't updated that thread in a while), so trying to add some doses to help growth.

I've also gotten trace additives too, so will be testing around before I see what's good and what's not.

  2. 40% of sump water not 40% of sump tank. Dun get me wrong n hope didn't scared the bro here who tot that it was 40% of tank water...

All along I tot that topping up of freshwater is as good as changing water coz both required new water...

If that 40% is due to evaporation, then freshwater would be fine but I find that amount excessive.

However, as Peter has mentioned, you will need to reduce excess nutrients from the water and putting back trace elements (from your saltwater mixture). So a water change would still be necessary to keep the tank running in good order (unless you are certain that tank conditions are excellent and you dose trace elements)

  3. I have some difficulties adding kalkwasser.

Here's what I did. Utilising a plastic tub, scoop water from my refugium and dose small quantities of kalkwasser powder into the tub, before slowly reintroducing into my refugium. However despite how I stir, there are still powder on the surface. I sort of gave up after a while and just poured the remainder into the refugium (since I have no lifestocks there, just liverocks) and let it dissolve over time.

Does it take a long while for kalkwasser to dissolve in the water ?

    Thanks

  4. As I have missed the bulk order, I've went ahead and gotten myself the 200micron filter socks of 7in ring diameter and 16in depth.

I have a few excess and would gladly let go at $11/each.

If interested, please drop me a message or leave your contact.

    Pickup at

    - suntec (office hrs)

    - rivervale crescent (evenings)

  5. Your tank may be too small to have enough algae to support the algae blenny if it doesn't feed on pellets. Once you notice it's stomach gets thinner and thinner, you can either sell it here or let it up for adoption to a reefer with big tank. Don't wait 'cos it will die of starvation if you don't do anything to help if that happens.

Try to get a few bigger liverocks to scape and scape it upwards too, it'll be nicer.

So far so good for the blenny, have been eating off algae, flakes and nori, hope that keeps it well.

Will find a weekend to scape upwards, seemed like everyone is commenting on that. Good thing. :thanks:

  6. Nice to see your clowns enjoying the Anemone.

    IMO, you should scape upwards.

Then will have more place for other coral.

Else, the look will be simple, with rocks at the bottom.

Do some Epoxy, but take it easy wor, with a few epoxy spreading over a period.

I've not tried any epoxy yet, still suffering from rock collapse when I scape. But will see how it goes first. Trying not too meddle too much for now until I have a better hang of marine tanks.

    Thanks

  7. Update......Here's how it looks a month later.

Move quite a fair bit of coral skeletons and rocks to the refugium below, now connected with a selfmade overflow pipe.

  8. Same thing actually. U still need to change the filters in the cannister otherwise the detritus will break down and turn into a nitrate factory within a few days especially if a lot of detritus is trapped by the filters. Furthermore since he is using a HOB skimmer, it is near impossible to connect the outlet of the cannister filter to the inlet of the skimmer. You will have a very high chance of overflowing the skimmer.

Actually, that's what I'm doing now, as in the output of my canister connecting to the input of the skimmer. And since the canister filer's flowrate is within recommended values that of the skimmer, it is functioning perfectly and skimming well.

  9. 5 micron would be an overkill, normally those normal under-the-sink replaceable cartridges have a wide range, 0.5-500 micron. So having 1 or 2 inline sounds to be a good water polisher. And the cartridges are cheap enough to be disposed on prolonged usage. Well, sourcing of a higher micron cartridge might need some effort.
