  1. Hi , :thanks: bros , want to keep.brown/yellow tang, wrasse, flam Angles.... and how to bring down the temp to27-28'C and I don't want to invest a chillers ....

    Hi Bro,

If u don't wanna invest in a chiller, just buy a cooling fan from ur local fish shop.

It will certainly help in bringing down Ur temperature.

Only downside is the fan will evaporate a lot of water... & u need to top up using freshwater regularly.

  2. u can try checking wif victor from iwarna

Thanks Yongshun & everybody for helping me find the skimmer..

U guys a real helpful gang. :thanks:

Went to Iwarna yesterday evening an got the skimmer at a good price...

Connected to the skimmer today & doing test run..& sure looks great... can see lots of bubbles in the skimmer..

Will post pictures once its starts skimming after the break-in period.

  3. Saw a few models at Reborn...but better call them 1st...coz this brand is quite popular due to its reasonably good price.

Thanks Ah Siang, reborn has reef octopus, but i want DNW.110 external model.

& they have only the expensive high end ones.

Guess i have to wait for lower end ones to come.. or search for second hand!

  4. get reef octopus. think below 150 can get, for 2nd hand.

    or get 2nd hand beckett.

Reef Octopus looks good & not too expensive..there is even an External Type (DNW series) but requires extra feed pump.

But i didn't find many reviews of ppl who have used it!

Has any of you brothers used this skimmer?

  5. Hi Fellow Reefers,

I have a 50 gallon tank moderately stocked running on Wiepro 2011. The problem with this skimmer is it produces half a cup skim mates in 2 weeks.

The nitrates are 40-60 ppm, so i cant keep any corals except maybe few mushrooms.

Currently thinking about upgrading the skimmer. Since i don't have a budget for a high end skimmer like deltec, i am considering a Dymax or Macro Aqua, Needle Wheel kind outsump or hangon kind

Has anybody used these skimmers or would know which one is better? or know of any good skimmer in similar price range.

Thanks in advance for ur answers. :thanks:

    & happy reefing!!

  6. I had bought a handful of cheatoes few months back.

Since i knew the required sufficient light i hanged them in a betta box close to my PL tank lights.

They look the same from day one until now..no growth at all..

They appear & feel so dry & plastic-ish from the time i bought...

I even had to convince myself its real but feeding a small piece to my yellow tang.. which it ate.

    Any advice?

  7. thanks for the info i am not using to cool fish tank i am using to cool a styro foam box about 25 liters of water

guess 788 should be enough as there is no heat from the outside should be able to bring water to 25 deg or lower

    Hi petecyl,

I have this 788 lying in storage, can sell it to you, if u want

But this chiller isn't powerful at all & i don't think can achieve temperatures lower than 1-2 deg below the actual water temp.

  8. Gates vs. GM

For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives, read on.

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated,

'If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon.'

In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating:

If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part):

    1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash........

    Twice a day.

    2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.

    3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.

    4. Occasionally, executing a manoeuvre such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

    5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads.

    6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single 'This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation' warning light.

    I love the next one!!!

    7. The airbag system would ask 'Are you sure?' before deploying.

    8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

    9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

    10. You'd have to press the 'Start' button to turn the engine off.

Please share this with your friends who love - but sometimes hate - their computer!

  9. I currently have a 3ft (50G) FOWLR.

    i am using 36W X 2 PL Lights

Since i cannot afford a chiller, using a fan.. but still can maintain 27-28 deg temprature

I wanted to ask would it be better if i switch to T5 lights...

I have heard they are more energy efficient & brighter...

I have some cheatoes in a betta box.. but seems to be not growing.. maybe cause the light isnt that bright...

    Will it increase the temperature?

Has anybody done any research on T5 lights as compared to PL lights.

    :thanks:

  10. I am a newbie....

I have only kept Sun coral...

Found it pretty challenging at 1st..cause of it requires target feeding....

But now i have invented way to make it easier...

I would consider it pretty hardy, cause being a newbie, my tank water isn't the perfect but yet its alive & looking happy...post-14338-1217500800.jpg
