  1. hi all,

i juz wan2 ask if any bro is able to keep cheatos using juz those small submersible LED lights? is 5W sufficient? thks

Not sure if it will be bright enough to grown cheatos... ..

Like others said...I would suggest using an energy saving bulbs...

If u have space constrains.. use the smallest available ones.

  2. one more question: where is the best place to put the sun coral....under shading area , on the sand bed or shine on the lights.....

    thanks.

    Randy

You can find the frozen brine shrimp in most LFS.

Regarding where you should keep the sun coral...

Sun coral doesn't require light as it doesn't rely on light for photosynthesis.

But there is no harm in keeping a lighted place...

Most importantly choose a place where its easy to target feed...

I have put mine on a small flat rock on the sand bed...so that it polyps close to the bottom doesn't sink into the sand

I use a coke bottle to target feed so sand bed is the best position for me...

    Cheers!

  3. wheres the lfs in china town? :)

Don't have the exact address right now...

But its located on the HDB level 2 next to Chinatown complex(the newly upgraded hawker centre)...there is even a birdge connecting the hawker centre to the HDB..

The pix posted by marcel isn't bad too...but the syringe that i bought has extenable tube is stiff & not flextible...so easier to reach the bottom of the tank...

If u need the exact address let me know.. will have to search for it...

    cheers!

PS: If ur sun coral isnt opening... try enticing with frozen brine shrimp...( had the same problem)

  4. Hi All,

Has anybody gone to changi beach collecting marine stuff.... :pirate:

Somebody told be can collect sea grass...

Supposed to be full of copi-pods, can feed my green mandrin...(fussy eater)

If yes, where is a good spot to see & maybe get some....

Can checked NEA website for low tide timmings...

  5. What Algae plant are you keeping? I encounter this when i throw my entire cheato into my QT tank.....the skimmate water is green....Will have you to pray for your fishes.

i have a Caulerpa... but its slowly fading away cause these algae plants require strong lights... & i have just PL lights in my FLOWR setup...

Did u have any problems or causalities when your cheato gave out color....

I think u maybe right, the algae plant may be the cause...just read that the spore can make the water turn milkly-green color

  6. Hi guys,

Today morning when i woke up to feed my fish, realized that my tank water had turned light green & a bit clowdy...

Didn't have time check the parameters... but there wasn't any missing fish & my tank doesn't have any anemone etc...

Still puzzled, as to the reason for the color change...

Yesterday night it was all ok, just did some algae cleaning, but not enought to cause so much green colouration...

Anyway the fish look ok.. just change a bit of water, cause i had a small pail of salt water in reserve...

Has anybody has had any similar experience...

Hope nothing dies when i reach home... tonight.

    Thanks in advance...

  7. You should take more effort to describe it.

Is it red or green, thorny or soft?

    Sorry...should have put more details...

    But its hard to describe

Its green, but has a very dry plastic look...

    Not thorny

I had see it before in lfs displays generally at the top layer of the tank...in bright light

  8. Hi Guys....

I bought a beautiful sun coral, few week ago from Pasir Ris fish farm.....

Now no sleep cus i have to sit late target feeding each polyp...

Even tried a short cut using the coke bottle, but throwing in food doesnt reach all polyps as compared to target feeding.

I saw lot of ppl using turkey basters....has anybody seen such stuff sold in singapore stores

  9. You can buy those baskets from Daiso or nearby shop in HDB. Make sure it got lots of holes to allow water to flow through. Three times the size of your fish. If you are getting two yellow tangs, you need much bigger one say at least 10 times their size to avoid them fighting. I tried this many years ago with two yellow tangs and put dry seaweeds floating on top water. After one to two days, they feed. Make sure you off all lights before putting them into the basket. The basket technique works with many kinds of fish from experience.

Thanks bro will check out daiso for a basket....

  10. You post this in the wrong place.

Looks like your quarantine tank is probably too small for the fish. I normally use basket (big enough) with holes (in main tank) and train the fish to feed before I let it swim into the main tanks. It works. Yellow tank is easy to train. Give them sea weeds. they will feed by 2nd day. Switch off tank light before you introduce fish into basket.

Using a basket in the main tank is a good idea, even tho its not totally a quarantine, cause all fishes are swimming in the same water...

Just wondering where do u get such big baskets from...& how big a basket would you required to keep a yellow tang?

  11. some questions here...what is ur water quality in ur quarantine tank ? that could be the problem.

and the size of the tank maybe too small for any benefit of the tank and could cause more stress in the end.

and is the fish feeding at all ? feeding pellets ?

and where did u dose ur medication ? medication for too long in a small tank will cause more harm to the fish. one hour dip should be enough when u first acquire the fish.

I agree keeping a small quarantine doesnt actually benefit, but there is always cost & space issue if another big tank just for quarantine...

Didnt actually check the parameters cause i used water from the main tank which its very good...Nitrites & ammonia 0, nitrates 20 ph 8.2

Fish was feeding very well whenever the white spots reduced... pellets & nori...even saw it eating brine shrimp when in introduced it in the main tank...

I dosed malachine green 1 drop in about 2 days interval on the 2nd week ...in the quarantine tank.... didnt help much

i had given it a 10 min formallin dip before introducing it in the main tank... might have stressed the fish more... i guess...

  12. Hi guys!

Bought a yellow tang 2 weeks ago!

Since they are more pron to white spots, i planned to quarantine for 2 weeks...

Only problem is my quarantine tank is small (about 6 gallons.)

Anyway during the period it kept getting white spots now & then, even partial changing water didnt help cause that also cause change in parameters cause more white spots.

    Dosed some malachite green

Anyway after 2 weeks, the white spots were still there & i had to make a dicision to put in the main tank or not, cause the main tank the water is much better...

Anyway i put it in the main tank exposing risking even the existing fishes in the main tank...

Tang was ok for a day , but died on the 2 day with visible white spots on its gills ...

My question is is it worth to quaranatine!

  14. any space for a hang on skimmer?

Think there was a person selling a decent one for $90+?

Yeah finally did that...bought a Weipro 2011...hang on type. $33 from pasir ris & put it in my overflow chamber...

Dont need to worry about it overflowing & stuff...

After 4 days..it is producting green tea coloured skimmates...

  15. Sorry to jump in the thread..

Has anybody had any sucess in keeping madrin fish alive with live adult brine shrimps...(ones you can buy from LFS).

Anyway remember that even though the mandrin fishes you buy from hong leng will eat his gormet, but you will require more frequent water changes, cause the uneaten food quicky dissolves in the water & pollutes it..

  16. Hi,

    I have 2 fish tanks to dispose(FOC)

    1) 36"(L) X 15"(W) X 15" (H)

I have made an DIY partition for internal overflow.

    2) 36"(L) X 12"(W) X 18" (H)

Prefer person to take both together.

    Self collect at Yishun area.

Both this tanks are hand made by me... so might not be the most professional looking!

If nobody needs it, will be disposed of on sunday

    Thanks

    Sanjay

PS: I have a Blue velvet damsel to give away FOC too.. check my next Posting!

  17. Previously, did such a office tank for my last company. Used those airstone skimmer. Its small enough.

    Thanks for the reply

Do u remember what brand you used.

Was looking at Red Sea Berlin Airlift...looks good.

Just wondering if i could squeeze it into my oveflow chamber.

  18. You forgot to mention whether you have a sump tank or not. If no sump, then you probably need to get those hang-on skimmers. Not sure how big is your internal overflow compartment to fit a skimmer.

I dont have a sump, only a small internal partition for overflow filter, maybe about 5 inches wide. dont know what can fit in it!

I am new here.. can sombody tell me how do u attach picture to the forum

PS: thats my sun coral i bought last week
