  1. Where is ML, henry? Thanks

Marine Life Hobbielist at Hong Leong Garden shopping centre. Exact address is found at the sponsors website. Open from 12pm to 8pm. Owner is Henry. Last visit yesterday, i see only 3 mandarins left. One sick. Not all will eat the henry's gourmet but worth a try. My yellow target mandarin still do not want to eat yet. Good luck!

  2. HI THERE COULD SOME ONE PLEASE HELP ME

IF THEY HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF SKIMMERS ESPECIALLY THE RESUN SK-05 MINI SKIMMER AS I HAVE PURHASED ONE AND HAVE FOLLOWED THE SET UP INSTRUCTIONS HOWEVER THEY ARE VERY LIMITED, I HAVE TRIED IT, AND THE WATER PUMP WORKS BUT THERE IS AN ADJUSTMENT WHEEL ON IT, THE MORE YOU TURN THE HIGHER THE LEVEL OF WATER RISES IN THE SKIMMER TUBE AND IF TURNED TOO MUCH THEN THE WATER SPILLS OUT THE COLLECTION CUP, DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN ADJUST THIS PLEASE

    THANX GUYZ

Foam needs to come out of the chamber into the collection cup. That is correct. But if the collection cup spills over, that is wrong. Either u skimmer is placed too low or otherwise. The wheel is likely the air valve to control level.

  3. hi pple, im new to this marine hobby...have not bought anyting yet...but im thinking of getting a ready-made filtration box by Jireh...the diamond-reef quick start...is this good enough for a fish with live rock only tank? or anyone can recommend me a better and cheaper lobang? :thanks:

I've recently been there. If u r referring to the $600 (in tank sump) system with fish and corals in, I think the hardy fishes like damsels will probably survive. If u do frequent water change (10-20%) per week or fortnight, it'll probably work for corals as well. It has a skimmer, some filter floss and some ceramic rings inside there. Dunno if got activated carbon. The display tank is indicative as if u look underneath, they added quite a bit more stuff not included in the package like ozone etc. No chiller with the system so I think the temp is gonna be high (30 degrees if ambient temp is 26-27 degrees even if u use T5 and fan... ). When my chiller went down, I direct a 13k BTU aircon on the tank. Temp can be brought to 25 degrees with direct closeby aircon if using t5.

U probably need to control phosphate level with additives etc as well.

Best thing is to read up more and find out exactly what u are getting. For all in one system, u can try Red Sea Max, HQI by JBJ etc. Iwarna, Pacific Reef, Petmart, Reborn, Aquamarin has these on sale. U can check them out. They do not have chiller so u can check the pasar malam of SG reef to get good deal. Better still, get direct from the seniors who are decommissioning or upgrading.

  4. Ok. Need to plan also. Hehe. Anyway, saw you asking for banded shrimp, just becareful as banded shrimp and kill your cleaner. It is aggressive and can prey on smaller fishes. Nevertheless, they are good in clearing worms hiding in holes of your rocks. Cheers.

Is it true coral banded kills cleaner?? I heard some say they are ok some say they are devils. I have just added a coral banded to a tank with cleaner... Getting worried. It was smaller than cleaner but just moulted and now about the same size.

  5. Do a partial water change if you cant stand the smell. If you can tahan...i will suggest u get a skimmer to "clean the water". Best is to use both...water change and skimmer. For marine setup, always good to have skimmer. Learned my lesson...previously suggested to a newbie like me to process the live rock which will kill those critter, and live bacteria....anyway, some ppl do kill live rock to ensure no parasite and slowly cultivate them to live rock again. Anyway, take my suggestion as reference as i might be wrong again....wahahaha...

open to correction. .....failure is mother of all success....lol

Just for your info, u can get a lot of info on nano tank without skimmer on nanoreef.com

An amazing example is linked here.

    http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=133238

Their nano reef of the month is also without skimmer. Not sure if anyone have replicated the success here.

The trick seems to be constant water change, top up and keeping hardy stuff.

Getting natural sea water is cheap and convenient for water change if u have transport. Iwarna (pasir ris farmway) sells it for $1 per 10 litre bag. Pacific Reef for $1.5. Have checked on reef depot sea water. Cheaper than buying distilled water and mixing marine salt which i did when i set up my RSM. Pacific reef recently has really cool stuff like nudibranch, frogfish, beautiful mantis, coral catshark, pom pom crab etc etc. Worth a visit. AM got interesting live sand u can consider. ML just leong some corals.

Good luck and keep us updated.

  6. Hi, I am totally new to marine aquarium setup. I intend to have a marine tank of dimension of 1m x 45cm x 45 cm built into a full height cabinet.

What essentials, recommendations and cost am I looking at assuming that the cabinet is already taken care by the ID.

I would like to consider anemone, anemone fish, clams, blue surgeon fish, cleaner shrimp and some soft corals in mid term for the tank.

Importantly, I would the experts here to recommend the most cost effective setup and with emphasis on low maintenance. I have a 3-4k budget excluding the cabinet cost.

    Thanks guys.
