  1. Recently was able to get a friend who was coming over from HK to hand carry Aqualine 150W bulbs and AquaMedic Deniballs.

Definately save alot of cash and better lead time than waiting for AquaMart to bring them in.

Will be Beijing next week and hopefully can make a detour over the weekend to HK and do a field report.

  2. if nobody buys, then the LFS won't bring them in. Customers demands drives business. That's what the industry is about. Imagine every LFS tell newbies not to buy any corals/fishes as much as they would like to sell, you'll won't see any LFS very soon.

Over the years, reefers gain experience and there is no right or wrong method. People can do only what their pockets allow them to do so. If someone chose to buy a 2ft tank to keep sps, no one can stop them.

You might as well open a SPCA equilvalent for Reefs if this happens.

People all over the world go to some sort of forums these days for any advice, and end up getting flamed because someone in the forum thinks he is the expert on that particular subject.

Watching all the words going back and forth from the sidelines really makes it more interesting to see how people can react so differently when they are behind their keyboards , with no face seen.

    Just my 2 sandbits worth.

  3. I was quite lucky to escape that dreaded clam disease.

When i saw that post on clam diseases, was a little afraid that one of the newly purchased Crocea might come with disease.

Other than strong lighting, only other food is from Kent's liquid food like MicroVert and PhytoPlex.

  4. AT,

If we hobbyists really go open a reef shop, i guess we will all go broke very fast as we won't be selling anything thats good as all the good stuff goes into our own tanks.

Some of the LFS are just making a quick buck without ever thinking of the end result of the customer.

  5. Actually did thought of opening up a reef shop years ago. Specializing in reef setups for 150G and above.

But you've to give up lots of things, especially time. Weekends and public holidays are gone permanently.

Lots of overtime, maintenance and manpower.

Singaporeans tend to be cheapo when they buy things, always ask for discount.

Which means that you have to strive on enough margins to make or break.
