    for your tank size, suggest you keep dwarf or juv angel, price range varies $10+ to few hundred dollars... flame angel will be nice, rather hardy, around $35-$50, depend on size. :lol:

    it will very much depend on your luck also if your flame angel will nip on your corals.. some does and some do not..

    i think you have to consider a few issues:

    1. the PAR (Photosynthetically Available Radiation) / PPFD (Photosynthetic Photon FLux Density) requirements (ie. quantity) as well as spectral quality (ie. color) requirements of your intended captive inhabitants. Several articles by Dana Riddle and Sanjay Joshi in the Adavnced Aquarist Mag should provide u with some leads on the lighting requirements

    2.your spectral preference (ie. what colour do u prefer looking at). again, Feldman et al. (2008) in the march issue of AA Mag will illuminate u (pardon the pun)

    3. the depth of ur pocket. i agree with Reefzzz on the cost issue.

    Hope this helps.

    And not forgetting the running cost in the long run.. esp when the electricity bill going north nowsaday..

    May i know how to do regular chiller maintenance?Do you get ppl to service it or you open up and clean? Currently im using artica 1/3 and the most ill wash the front cover. Also pls share how to do regular checks-what to check?

    the basic maintain you can do is to use a vacumm cleaner to suck allt he dust on the cooling coil... other than that, you should engage professional to do a maintance it for you.. which should be every six month i think..

    another way to check is also to see if the chiller take much longer time to kick in or not ?

  4. Well I'm trying to get caught up with the posts; gonna have to combine a few here to get them out without postponing anymore. Seems to be a lot of interest in scrubbers that are unique, like the giant one, and the solar one. Well today is another unique one, but first here are some results feedback:

    "Pong" on the RF site said "i had a lot of green hair algae growing on my screen. noticed that the red algae in my DT has lessened dramatically."

    "Johnt" on the UR site said "I've always used phosphate remover. I've tried most makes but always ended back using Rowa. since running the scrubber I've stopped the phosphate reactor and despite the scrubber not yet being at the Turf Algae stage the phosphate readings are dropping."

    And "thauro77" on the SWF site said "Here are my test results, the dates are the water changes dates as well:

    He knows that the part of the screen underwater will not contribute, so he made sure the part above the water had enough size to handle things. We'll see how LED's work!

    No all LEDs light will work on plant culturing . Some leds may seem to be very bright in the ###### eyes but it lack the wave length needed for plant photosynisis..

    Relation between WAVELENGTHS and PLANT CULTIVATION

    1) Plant photosynthesis occurs at a wavelength of 400 nm to 700 nm

    2) Certain wavelengths have greater influence on photosynthesis, 400 to 525 nm (blue color) and 610 to 720 nm (red color) are the biggest contributors to photosynthesis

    3) Wavelength between 520 to 610 nm (green color) has the lowest ratio in plant pigment absorption

    In regards to the principles stated above, organic lighting that is sold in the market usually refers to two specific wavelengths, the red and blue wavelength.

    From a distance, the color of the light that exposed by the organic lighting is pink in color. While in existing white light LED, most utilize a blue color chip set with a coating of yellow phosphor and with this combination, white light is the end result. Therefore, the energy distribution of the white light has two distinct peaks at 445 nm (blue color) and 550 nm (yellowish-green color) but organic life also needs wavelengths at 610 to 720 nm (red color) and white light lacks this wavelength. This is the reason why white light LED is not advantageous for organic life cultivation.

  5. The Red SeaBerlin Air-Lift Protein skimmer not working as per expectations. Please can you help advice a solution to this problem?

    · I had purchased and installed the Berlin Airlift 60 (240 litres) skimmer approx. 4 weeks ago. The skimmer is connected to a new EHEIM 3704 Air Pump which is 400 litres/hour. I have connected both the outlets of the airpump using a connector to the Red Sea wooden airstone which was supplied with the skimmer. My FOWLR Tank is 47.97 gallon and approximately 5 months old.

    · I have also kept the skimmer at the Water Level market indicated on the skiimer.

    · As you see in the pictures below, The skimmer just foams only white bubbles ocassionally in the collection cup and does not produce any dark skimmate.

    · The surface of the water is agitated using a 2 powerful powerheads and hence the water near the water level marker keeps fluctuating sue to the surface waves generated by the powerheads.

    I used this before as well for my very fist tank.. maybe you an play around with the positiion of the skimmer on top of the water ... But in the long run, it is adviceable to get the hang on primzer skimmer instead..

  6. Just to add that MH is much hotter and takes up more watts, so a chiller is almost a must to go with it or the tank could be "cooked". Whereas for T5, you can still do without chiller, and using fan instead...and less tubes such as just 1 blue 1 white too, esp for FOWLR. :)

    Since Aquarium lighting make up of about 50% of the total energy usage of your tank.. getting a good sets of enery saving lighting thus is very important in the long run... :eyebrow:

  7. Sorry, it typo error. I mean bought from lfs :bow: for a cost of $2 per jerry can. That mean a week cost me a WC only $6 :yeah: exclude salt mix to beef up sg.

    For your information, the nsw come from off shore Changi near Johore shoal. The following are test generally taken for the water approximately;

    Sg - 1.020

    Ph - 8.2

    Kh - 7

    Ca - 350ppm

    Mg - 1110 ppm

    PO4 - undect (Salifert)

    NO3 - Undect (API)
