overfeeding bro ... chunks of prawns might be too much for them. frozen mysis shud be enough. you should see them be ok after. feed slowly, and adjust based on their response.
on your new problem, might be one of your fishes. for some reason one of my BTs had a sudden liking, and started nipping ... so now my sups are secluded with a 'cage' ... if you see that it has receded and some 'jelly' type of material is covering it, like melting, that's it, seems to be irreversible and accept the inevitable ... but you can still prevent / protect the other heads.

A very potent way to get them to open is seafood mix... Prawn, Sliverfish, sotong and blend den mix with rotifers, cyclopeeze and mysis... Squirt at the sun coral on the time that you want it to open... After a week, it will open at the time... After 1-2 months, it will remain open...
PS: Skimmer need to be oversize and it will go crazy...
hehe, right terry. i was doing this previously, and yes my skimmer goes berzerk, and still my water quality still gets messed up (only using tunze nano) ... so now just feed them 1x/wk of some live brine, frozen mysis and cyclopeeze, then 3x / wk of fauna marin ultra LPS. and they stay happy
and my water doesn't get messed up as much as before ...

Bro, normal suns are just as nice, especially when the whole rock is fully opened and extended. From your first pic, yours should open up twice that size. Super sun is bigger per polyp and but it's super costly and much smaller too relative to normal suns. Personally, i'm not sure why the craze over super suns.
And before you venture more of them, think long-term if you are willing to feed individual heads on a regular basis. If you think you are those '5 mins warm' type and too busy to do constant target feeding, then better think twice of buying more.

once you're able to care well on your sunnies, and they come out blooming often, you're gg to appreciate them more, they look stunning as well. actually as I understand from readings previously, seems these suns (tubastrea) are even harder than super suns (dendros), in the sense that the dendros are more 'forgiving' in less feedings than tubastrea. some testing needs to be done - before i fed my supers once everyday, but they responded not so good about it and seems to keep on throwing up, so i lessened it to average 3x / wk, and since then they have been thriving well. important thing is they stay healthy, and hopefully stay open longer.the dendros are indeed much more costly. the main diff is really the bigger polyps, and bigger blooms. i haven't really had experience with suns, but just thinking about it, imay even find it harder to feed them individually than supers (due to the bigger heads). my super is now 43 heads, and i'm not able to feed all specially kids and babies, but since these babies are connected, then nutrient sharing seems to be working, and they are still growing.
i guess the important thing is whether these are normal suns or supers, or normal zoos and those exotic, we can still bring out something special so long as we keep them healthy and happy ... and next thing you know they either develop more stunning vibrant colors

thanks. started with around ~ 30 heads ... now about 43. so far 3 adults and 3 babies RIP, due to unknown disease (?), the adults just closed up and started to melt, and their babies at the sides followed. for both cases (~ 6 mos ago, and early this year), removed and quarantined them, gently flush with fresh NSW the dying heads time to time when i see some gooie stuff. good that the other heads beside eventually stayed healthy and did not get hit.

This is my first try on Sun Coral...
currently only open when I ON my blue lights..
Any good advise on how to make this Sunny well taken care of?
also try to wean them to feed during lights on ... coz naturally they're in dark areas / caves, so not used to light, but i think should be able to adapt, just not in totally bright-blasted areas. with this, can see them open whether lights on or off. i always feed them with lights on, and for lights off, then it's just up to them what they can catch in the water column.

no..no still smaller than rhizo.. Rhizo is HUGE.
I had seen super sun with about 50c closed size that opens to almost 3inch diameter.
But not to be envious, frequent feeding make them grows fast and BIG.
haha ... that's big. i need to keep on injecting them steroids then.
yeah, i checked, and you're right. when 'extremely' extended, the 3 heads extend 3/4" vertically, and about 1.5" wide, so bigger than 50c. closed, it's about the size of 1 gold coin

i used to feed with mysis and cyclopeze. just messes up the water too much. now i mostly feed with fauna marin ultra LPS (time to time mysis and live brine), and so far they've been blooming with a bang !

I saw some supersun pic and they can bloom very big..
super sun yes ... i have a few heads about 50c size.

hi, just sharing. one of my 2 baby green bubble coral during the night suddenly left it's skeleton and was carried by the flow, landing on my super sun ball ... as a result in the morning, a total of about 7 heads (out of the 45 heads) look like this ...
looks like all of em curled up and was throwing up some brownish poo looking thingy. 3 days already since and very slow in recovery, still throwing up till now. the baby bubble, no quarantined, so far still look ok (will it grow it's skeleton again?). didn't know the bubble's sting is this strong ...

more of mixed reef, towards more fishes...
the main reason for my upgrade is for me to house more fishes,
to keep those that i was not able to do so with my previous 2ft cube...
mainly fishes, some basic LPS, and maybe some SPS...
but i would love to have a nice collection of zoas

yup, my delivery arrived this morning. came in oceanic salt blue tubs, ~20 liters for each tub. good thing is, not messy. tubs comes closed with lids, no spills
still have to see how the water quality is ...
