    if you are keeping a tank with only fish and no coral, you can afford to go lower on the salinity.

    lower salinity is less stressful to the fish because they don't have to work so hard to remove excess salt.

    it also helps keep diseases at bay such as ich.

    i would reccomend 1.016 to 1.019. this saves on salt also.

    but remember to slowly acclimate your fish from lfs as most lfs water are normal seawater.

    and if you want to acclimate your fish back to normal seawater, do it over a few days

    Hi Bro,

    Most marine tank set-up with have aerobic bacteria that will convert ammonia to nitrite and then from nitrite to nitrate.

    For set-ups that includes invertebrates which are sensitive to nitrate, reefers will need some ways to convert Nitrate to Nitrogen.

    One of the way is to add vodka a carbon (food) source for certain strains of bacteria that will transform Nitrate to Nitrogen.

    If your tank is FOWLR, technically you need not dose vodka. However, some FOWLR owners still dose vodka to reduce alga growth as nitrate is food source for algae as well.

    But do note that vodka dosing need precision and overdose will cause more problems even to the extend of crashing your tank and killing all livestocks.

    careful, some or most glass are not suitabled with heat. a few cases i heard of of cracking up when water are splash onto it while its hot. its better to use tampered glass.

    yes,normal glass cannot stand the heat of the MH coz i try it before within 5 min the glass cracking up then i use

    thicker glass ,the result also the same.

    I'm not pro with beckett. But don't feed aerated water into your MD55 cos output volume & pressure will drop. Air is compressible & MD55 impeller will do that to incoming aerated water. Size of bubbles in your skimmer column is controlled by air intake volume at the injector nozzle reacting to volume flow through it. Your skimmer has air throttle valve? Choked nozzle will also downgrade bubbling so clean it regularly.

    Don't think you can make finer bubbles unless you know how to alter air mixing dynamics within the nozzle.

    After i lower the salinity to (1.009)for about a month my fish now is no sign of ich

    and now i add another 1 fish for about 1 weeks liao,it also look healthy also

    my friend told me to raise up the salinity to (1.019)back.but i afraid my fish will start sick again.

    If i dont raise up to 0.019 for a long time (I mean leave it like that )Anything will happen to my fish???

    Can any PRO can advice???
