  1. you coming back to reefing arh. i support you if lost this bid you might to consider Law's tank. probably foc for u

lol.. thanks bro! the itch is always there..i'm jus slowly taking my time to build up for now!

but law's tank is definitely out for me! maybe u can consider combining ur tank with his to form a super giant long tank side by side? :P

  2. hey there, purpose of cycling is to breed the array of useful bacteria, so the more live rocks the better indeed.. but time is also an aspect for the bacteria to make love whistling.gif and populate the large amount of live rocks. ;) and not all live rocks are sold equal, some are more porous than others (the better ones), and some are just less.

tt's y if u visit some LFS u'll notice y some of their filtration system (sump) have an endless amount of live rocks as a filtration medium. some will have bags of Biohome, (really awesome stuff, esp the red 1s), Bioring, Bioballs, some claim Deep Sand Bed (2 camps on this), bio pellet etc.

so if u're a math person, reliable marine water + good bacteria medium (porous live rocs, biohome etc) + good bacteria supplements + time + plenty of patience is the function of cycling.

ah, i might be outdated though, but tt's the basic i reckon! but pls pls pls DON'T put a live fish during cycling period for it to provide food (it's waste) to feed the bacteria, use instead a deshelled prawn! (u will eventually c that the whole prawn rot away into nothing and the water eventually clear up, and tt's bacteria at work!)

btw, some of the live rocks would already have living things on it, so it will also die (from various shocks etc) and rot during this period, but be careful of pest that might survive this period and wreck havoc to ur tank later!

    hope it helps! cheers.

  3. hmm it's like you suddenly stepping in to a hot spring naked, tt's how your fishes feel, a sudden shock. Even if we can tahan the sudden change, these small creatures really can't, :)

I can relate to your excitement of buying a new fish/shrimp and the sadness and confusion as to why it died upon entering the tank.. but reading and plenty of patience will go a long way, all of us here mean well~ Just remember, keeping a fish tank is a function of many variables (water parameters, temp, livestock compatibility, coral sting, and a lot more) and this formula cannot be rushed. Hope it helps.

  4. Hi bros/sis,

selling Deltec AP 702, just got serviced by Reef Depot some time in October. This skimmer is also very highly rated in Reef Central. Was told that it is even able to skim out a decomposing anemone. It is very short (height) for a powerful skimmer.

    Information from Deltec website.

The AP702 Protein Skimmer a high performance model for aquariums from 1500 to 2000 lts but small enough to fit in most cabinets.

It incorporates the patented "Neuhaus" Pinwheel system in two modified Eheim 1260 pumps, resulting in unsurpassed skimming performance.

The AP702 produces a maximum level of air of 1400 lts per hour.

Air is drawn in automatically through an air intake adaptor. The rotation of the water/air mixture provides a long contact time with the pollutants resulting in a highly efficient performance. The extremely fine water/air mixture is pumped into the contact tube, where it rises and is collected in a removable cup at the top of the skimmer.

    • Can be stood either in or beside a sump or beside the aquarium.
    • Can be gravity or pump fed (supply pump not supplied).
